Hello! I'm new to this site so I don't really know how it works, but a while ago I found this rock? Fossil? Idk. In a creek bed. I'm located in Missouri near the KC area if that helps. It's about 5 inches long, 5 and a half in the middle circumference.

I'm hoping to know what I found is fossilized bones and if so what it might have come from. I found the specimen after some road work was completed. The location is in northern Illinois, USA. Less than half kilometer from Volo bog, the only remaining open-water quaking bog in Illinois and the southernmost quaking bog in North America. After I cleaned the mud from the rock I found that the pice on top was able to come out since it was cracked in half unfortunately possibly from the construction equipment. Thank you for your time and would be very interested in your insight regarding my find.

Hi, I'm Keith. I am not a fossil hunter, alas I am from Massachusetts and the only fossils here are dino tracks. I'd love to go to a fossil hotbed for a vacation someday and hunt them out for real. Until then I must be content with just being a collector. My collection isn't huge or impressive, mostly shark tooth and some shells, coral, etc. Nice to be here!
