Hello. I am new to this forum . I have recently inherited a large fossil collection. My father collected them from around the world mostly in the 70's and 80's. Unfortunately ' I can not provide any information regarding origin. Recently I had a heart attack and am cataloging everything for my wife. I was thrilled to find this forum. Any help to Identify this suspected fossil would be appreciated. My online efforts have been a failure so an educated opinion would be great. Thank you, Sunmadmurf

HELP REQUEST connoisseurs. What is it? Is it a rock, a fossilized egg, a fossilized fruit?
CarlArthurKing posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello everyone. I found this piece in one of my journeys to the Cali mountains (Farallones hillsides), in my country Colombia, South America. Please let me know what do you think it is. I thought it was a fossilized fruit, but it seems to have like a shell or so. I also want to know, -no matter what it is-, how can I preserve it the better possible way, so I can keep it safe for years to come. A big hug for you all. C.A.King Zapata- 2 replies

Help request! I am putting together a tool for judging rock age based on very crude, whole-rock, hand-sample observations of fossil faunas/floras -- the types of observations a child or beginner could successfully make. I view this as a complement to the very fine, species-level identifications commonly employed as index fossils for individual stages, biozones, etc. In this initial framework, vibrant orange indicates times in earth history to commonly observe the item of interest; paler orange indicates times in earth history to less commonly observe the item of interest. White indicates very little to no practical probability of observing the item of interest. Please keep in mind that the listed indicators are things like "conspicuous horn corals," purposefully declining to address rare encounters with groups of low preservation potential etc. Got additions/amendments? Toss them in the comments below! Thank you for your insight and assistance.....
