Hi, it would be nice if I could get some opinions on this grallator footprint I purchased as I don’t know anything about this kind of stuff and how to spot if it’s fake, and another thing I’m confused about, if u flip it over there’s another footprint on the other side but it doesn’t match with the over one?

I found this bone in a creek in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have asked some hunters and farmers what it could be but nobody seems to know. It appears old but modern. There looks to be a suture mark or perhaps an old fracture or some pathology. I would appreciate any insight into what bone this may be. Or where I might look to find something to compare? Thank you.

Hello everyone, I was out shark tooth hunting today and came across this rock.in the top middle section of this rock is what I am about 80 percent sure is a shark tooth, probably hastalis or great white. As you can tell it is not very visible in its current state. My problem is that I have never done a prep on a fossil before and was wondering if there is a safe way to remove the rock from the tooth without buying any special equipment to do so. Any advise? Thanks!

Hi friends I was wondering if Carroll county maryland can have fossils? Is there any way I could find fossils in a creek near my house? I border Howard so southern Carroll county.

I don’t think this is quite fossilized yet, and think it’s some type of shell but I don’t know. I find similar shell pieces on the beach but not with this weird bumpy swirl. Anyone know what it is? I can’t remember where I found it but it was definitely Florida. Thanks!

Ok, I have a box full of fossil like structures that I found and kept just in case, and after closely looking at one of them while showing my cousin, I noticed there were shiny tooth like structures on it. Ive attached a photo and im positive this is a fragment of a potential small mammal jawbone. I found it in big brook NJ and I posted photos from all 4 sides. The fragment is really small, its a centimeter long in total. The black bead like structures seem to be small teeth.

Found this interesting textured fossil at the beach in St Augustine Florida. I find lots of bone fragments and skull caps and such here but never found anything this texture

Hi there everyone. I would really appreciate your skills/opinions about if my little ''treasure'' is actually a coprolite or not. I have always believed it to be, just because it looks like a poo with something in it to me. I have forgotten where i found it, but most likely it was in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. It is ovalish in shape and appears to have a ''skin' wrapped around some sort of internal content. As I know zero about fossils, your time and expertise is gratefully appreciated. Hey, last post for now but the main fossil of the trip had to be what looks like an edomontasaurus tooth fragment. There are serrations at the back of it and I suspect its most of the bottom half of one. The other bigger fossil most likely is a suggestive rock but I just included the photos haha. Could you guys confirm that the smaller fossil is possibly an edmontosaurus tooth fragment? I found them in big brook NJ, a popular fossil hunting site in a stream of water.

Hey, A couple years ago I did go to big brook and I did find some items that I cannot identify there. Im an amateur fossil hunter haha, but I am intrigued to see if they could actually be a fossil or a suggestive rock. Ive attached the photos. I honestly have no idea if they are even anything, but I did have a suspicion that the black fossil looks like an edmontosaurus tooth. No idea.

Help! I am an art student who knows nothing about paleontology but I love it and am really curious about this fossil I found a few years ago. It was found at Hoover Dam. An aspiring paleontology student told me that it resembled the interambulacral plates of a sea urchin. Can anyone help identify it? Thanks!

I was given this piece by a friend who found it in either Union County or Madison County, Iowa. Gut instinct tells me it might be a Megalodon tooth, but its hard telling not knowing. I am very new to prepping fossils myself, but fortunate enough to have at the least a few of the required tools such as a Chicago pneumatic air scribe, a dremel, and an airbrush sandblaster with aluminum oxide. I have attempted to remove parts of the outer layer covered in rust and shell fragments but have pumped the brakes since I really have no idea if the tooth, assuming thats what it is, will be the same color as the matrix or if it will be distinctly different and very easy to identify once enough matrix has been removed. The rock underneath the rusty layer is a lot harder than I had initially though and is a light to mildly dark gray color. I don't intend to remove all of the matrix, just around the root and part of the enamel. Again I am very new to this so pardon the wildly inaccurate use of everything ( hence the title). Any tips, tricks, info, and guidance on how I should approach prepping this and how to tell fossil from rock is all welcomed and appreciated knowledge. I can provide much better pics as well if need be

Megalodon Root
Tales From the Shale posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Its to my understanding that many Megalodon teeth come with Unfortunate modifications, in order to artificially boost price. My question on thus particular tooth is, does the root look reconstructed, or does it appear to be unmodified? I'll post more pictures if everything checks out.
