Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could identify this or tell me if its something interesting. I was digging a bush out of my yard and hit it with a shovel, sounded much different than a rock so I washed it off. It was found in clay but this soil/ clay mix was brought in by a truck from somewhere after the house was built to level the backyard. I thought it was a very unusual piece to be found in the yard. Any ideas? Let me know if any other pictures would help. Thanks Chuck

New to this, recently put a house on a large family property that’s on a deep creek bed that runs into Cape Fear River. I have found several large beautiful pieces of petrified wood (cypress I’m assuming) I need help with connecting with people who could use some for research purposes (I will donate).

Hello, Folks! I openly admit I am not educated on fossils or geodes, but I do love rocks and have collected ones that spark my eye for years; however, on a recent walk I found a peculiar one and am interested to learn what (if anything) it might be. Can anyone help? Appreciate it! BLT

I found this down in the peace river Florida area and it’s got me stumped. 1 perfect tooth in the jaw section intact. A second tooth right behind it that looks split in half. Any ideas?

I searched every body of water on Rockd to see any sedimentary deposits that are near me; there is nothing. Everything is metamorphic, but then I came across Lytle Creek. I wen't on the map on Rockd and checked and it said something about sediment deposits. The info was too confusing; I couldn't find any easier info.

Hey Everyone! I've really come to appreciate all the help and support that this community offers. I feel privileged to live in a time and place where it is so easy to stay connected with others who share interest in our pursuit to uncover the mystery of deep time. I suppose that I should start off by introducing myself in case you haven't had the pleasure yet. So. Here goes: Hi! My name is Nicholas Perlenfein. I’m a student at College of the Redwoods currently pursuing an AST in Geology. I have an intense interest in studying fossils the genesis of which lies very early in the most dormant memories of my childhood. I hope one day to become a paleontologist or maybe a fossil preparator. I’m currently enrolled in my colleges English 1A course and have been assigned to conduct primary research in the form of a recorded interview regarding the discourse within my desired carrier and major. We are directed to schedule an interview with a professional in a relevant field and ask them about how peers within the profession choose to communicate and what ethics are held by the community at large. I felt that someone on TTF must work at a natural history museum, or knows someone they can put me into contact with, or at the very least, point me in the right direction? I understand that during these difficult times that people are very busy, I know for a fact that my schedule has been greatly disrupted. As stated before, I am looking to conduct an online interview, we can do Skype, zoom etc. of about 30 to 45 minutes that I can record in order to refer back to whilst writing my essay. Its crucial i be able to record the interview so, if you're not comfortable with that, although I would be thrilled to talk to you, I sadly won't be able to use our conversation for this assignment. I just want to thank everyone reading this one more time for making me feel so welcome in the community. I look forward to your replies. -Nick

Hi, I found this in a creek in Austin. It's very dense and has lots of smooth bumps. I was wondering if it was maybe Coprolite or maybe a meteorite. I tested to see if it was magnetic but I couldn't really feel anything. It's about the size of a golf ball. Can someone help me id this? Thank you!

Hi everyone, just joined to try to ID this little find I've had for about 25 years now. I have no knowledge about fossils of any kind, a friend suggested this may be one and showed me this page so I thought why not ask experts. This was found along river Kupa in Sisak, Croatia, during one very hot dry summer that caused significant water levels drop. It measures 4 cm wide, 5.5cm long and 1.6cm thick

Help! Cretaceous Dragonfly (Cordulagomphus) Fossil
KyCollector posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi there! I’m very new to the forum. I’ve recently been collecting various specimens - crinoids, fish, brittle starfish, trilobites, etc. I’ve come across the attached Cordulagomphus. The seller has said he/she purchased the fossil from a shop in Tucson, Arizona in the past and that it was found in Brazil, but I’m almost scared it’s a bit too good to be true, and I don’t want to get burned after paying the price. Can anyone take a look and tell me what they think? I really appreciate it!- 19 replies

Hi, For the course I'm doing in biology, I have to perform an experiment or study in which something can be measured, and then complete a write up of it. I want to do something palaeontological for this, but my teachers said no study could be done without having to damage fossils. (I am allowed to consult experts for this coursework) Does anyone have any ideas for a method that wouldn't involve damaging the fossils? I am planning to those supplied by my place of education, and some from my own collection. Thanks!

Hello, firstly sorry I dont mean to be rude but have no knowledge of the correct terminology to use. I am in the uk. Found this "stone" on a beach in the south of England some time ago. Just wondered if anyone knew what type of rock it is. It quite dense with a small hole in side that looks almost like quartz, but it's very smooth and almost looks like bubbles inside. It about the size of the palm of your hand. I have more pics but am limited on the upload. Any help much appreciated.

Hi. Total newbie here. But interested in what I see as I have been lurking this site for 5 years or so. I have acquired some basic prep tools and want to practice a bit of matrix removal to develop a feel for the rock and tools before I start anything important (to me at least). I picked up a few rocks yesterday from the Nanaimo Formations, upper Cretaceous, Campanian the map says. It would be handy to know what I am looking at so I could Google some images and know what to look for as I uncover things. If anyone would care to identify a few things, I would be grateful.

I found this in my back yard. Some tell me it's a concretion. I think it is an egg. I've tried several ways to break it down and it's doesn't change form. Except for where it looks torn. I need a professional eye.. any body?VID_20200216_000522088.mp4 VID_20200216_000633287.mp4
