  1. I received yesterday, a pair of brachiopods of this species, from a Chinese seller, I asked for information, and this is the only thing they sent me. I would appreciate if any member could translate the text, or tag to another member who can translate it. Thanks. It is not necessary to translate everything... just name, age and origin.
  2. Found on beach in North Florida. About 5x1.5 millimeters. Don’t know what it is yet.
  3. Found on beach in North Florida. About 5x1.5 millimeters. Shiny bits on the front and back. Not sure what it is?
  4. Long story short my grandmother use to order fossils from a website. She would keep some of the authentication certificates because I was so young at the time of receiving these. When she had passed I learned she lost almost all of the paperwork. I've been struggling to identify these with such little information to go off of. Any help is greatly appreciated. First image to last: - Small roughly 1'' tooth - Was thought to be plesiosaur tooth but it looks slightly different then the confirmed plesiosaur tooth I own - unknown -wrist or ankle of some sort, mammoth or mastodon -unknown
  5. Hello I recently found this specimen of a presumed Psittacosaurus skull I have no knowledge about the authentication of this piece the seller claims the skull has restorations less than 10%

    Urchin ID help please!

I just came across these in my storeroom and have no idea what they are, well apart from an urchin of some kind! Any help is appreciated!
  7. I was dipping my fossils in acetone and B76 in order to stabilize them for long term storage but my clear gloves started to disintegrate into the acetone and the fossils soaked it up. I didn't notice any color change until they dried and where coated in white. It only affected some of the last ones I dipped but they are also the ones I want to id. it's possible the dye came from something else as when I started using different plastic gloves it really coated them white. Can the color be removed? The structure can still be seen in the fish verts but suppose to be gray color. Im testing one by soaking in Acetone to see if it comes out.

    Rock Identification Help

Hi I was needed help on these 2 rocks they are both very very heavy and they are both extremely hard. I normally grind a part of a rock down to see the inside with my bench grinder and some rocks are harder than others but I have never seen anything as hard as these rocks. They just bounce off the grinding wheel and once I do manage to hold it against the wheel for a few seconds with sparks flying everywhere it does almost nothing to the rocks and i have grinded 1000's of rocks, Crystal's and metals with it and this is tye first time I have had this kind of reaction. The one that is more white has some random Rectangular shaped rust spots so I scraped one down and it has a dark grey metal color like what you find in Iron Ore. But the spots are not attractive to magnets. These are new to me but there are a lot of things new to me because I haven't been collecting rocks for that long. Any help at all with identifying the 2 rocks would be greatly appreciated. Thank You For all your help. The rocks where found in Macon, GA.

    Possible Amber (ID help)

Hello, This is my first post I found this forum while looking for help id'ing a large chunk of an unknown crystal like substance I found kayaking. Backstory... (Photos at bottom of post) Today I was kayaking in coastal waters in northeast Florida. This is saltwater, marshy, lots of pine, Cyprus, cedar trees on higher ground. While paddling near the bank I noticed a strangely shaped rock and decided to check it out. About 3/4 the size of a basketball with 2 holes similar to those in a bowling ball. Used a pair of needlenose pliers to inspect before I put my fingers in (plenty of things that could be living in there that I didn't want to interact with). As soon as the pliers made contact I could tell it was not rock, more of a glass feel. With some prying (attempting to free from muddy bottom) a piece broke off and immediately I was certain it was not rock, but the piece did not sink like glass. Also it smells like pine sap if that helps.

    Pre Ice age animals

I am working on a personal project that Google has chosen to not help me with, so I figured that someone here on the forum could help me. I am trying to find out what animals died at the beginning of the ice age because of the ice age, Google just tells me animals that died at the end of the ice age (mammoths, mastodons, sloths, etc.). I'll need any help I can get. Thanks!
  17. I'm trying to find new fossil hunting sites. I know that hogtown creek in Gainesville has some areas where you can find small megs and horse teeth, but I am not sure what parts of the creek they are in. The only area in hogtown I have been too has only centimeter or less long teeth, though there are hundreds. Does anybody mind sharing any sites in hogtown or just in Gainesville in general. Feel free to PM me or tell me what forum I should have put this in (I know it's probably not this one) thanks!

    What is this material?

Hi everyone, Collected this one quite a few years ago and have always been curious about its odd material and color. It's quite smooth and does not look like any of the other fossils I found there. So i'm curious if anybody knows what this material is and perhaps how it is formed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Tooth or Rock?

Found in a freshwater spring in Florida. I was skeptical at first but after looking at it for a while I’m curious.
  20. Hello! I have a question. Recently I have started to purchase fossils from closed locations and countries that are now closed for fossil collecting. Can anyone tell me any good closed sites that I can purchase fossils from? I barely know any. I only know about these closed sites / countries. Chile Brazil Lee Creek Mine Bone Valley? I'm not sure if it is closed. Hopefully someone can tell me some good closed sites. Age and country / area does not matter Thanks Cheers - Adriano

Need help with potential fossil ID

Hi all, I was in Italy on the Amalfi coast this past week, and stumbled across what I think may be a fossilized tooth. It looked cool so that’s why I picked it up. I could be wrong and it may be nothing. I’m hoping someone here can help me.
  24. Found in Dahlonega, Georgia. Original origin (if different) unknown. Before I realized it was a fossil, I had aggressively scrubbed the stone with a denture brush in hopes of cleaning off the deep dirt stains. It worked, but I'm not sure if it damaged it at all. It doesn't look noticeably damaged, if it is, but I figured I'd bring it up. This rock is *most likely?* limestone & quartz but I'm not terribly confident in that answer. Any help GREATLY appreciated!! The fossil appears to be a mix of star shaped and column shaped indents, with what appear to be shells as well. There may be more (as there are a lot of similar indents that look more like closely packed dots) but I'm not sure. P.S.: If anyone has tips to safely remove the iron stains, let me know! I'd rather preserve the fossil than remove the iron, but I figured I might ask.
  25. Here by my new Spinosaurus Aegypticus tooth from Taouz, Morocco. It is 4 1/2 inches. The colors are less common than your regular Moroccon Spinosaurus teeth. It has 0 restoration done to the tooth, and the quality is very high. Which I find special about this one. Noticed some slight patho and serrations on this tooth too? Could someone explain the patho perhaps.
