I've had this for a few years now and still don't know what it really is. I think poop but it could also be a hole. anyone have an idea? thank you in advance.

I found this in my black gravel driveway in Dallas. It stuck out because it’s isn’t black. I’m guessing it was brought in from somewhere else, either in my driveway gravel, from the dirt below, or possible from sediment in old concrete. We’ve had a lot of rain lately, so it was probably uncovered from the rain. It is about 2” or 5cm long, about 3/4-1” or 2-2.5cm diameter, kind of wavy-cylindrical. It has a single, prominent hole on each end, kind of like a bead. It is heavy - I first thought it was metal. It has a sandstone-like texture. It looks finely porous, with tiny holes maybe, and some bigger holes. It has a prominent dividing line down the length with one half being a medium-light brownish red, and the other half a darker Black and Tan color. It looks tumbled/eroded. I just thought it was interesting with the hole and the weight, and I’d love to know what it is!

Hello, I have just received this partial lower jaw, it is supposed to be from Leptomeryx evansi, but i have seen many skulls of L. evansi on the internet, and this doesn't look similar. It comes from the Oligocene of Orella member, Brule formation; South Dakota. I have got three questions; Who did this jaw belong to? What part of the jaw did these teeth occupy? Is that hole on the first photo normal? Or was made by an animal or disease? Thanks to everyone!

Hello, I found this bone over the weekend in Manatee County, FL and have no clue what it’s from. It is 6.5” long and 3” at the widest. There is a very defined hole in it that appears to me to be part of the original bone and not from weathering factors. Is it possible that this is a piece of skull segment that held a tusk or horn? Thanks for looking. -Marie

Pretty sure this is petrified wood can you confirm this. And then the little hole on the one side is deeper than it looks in the picture (about as deep as it is wide) is there anyway to say if this was caused by erosion or from something living before fossilization

Hi all, thank you for letting me join and post our find. My kids found this fossil(?) on Charmouth beach in the UK a few years ago. We didn't think it was anything until a family friend pointed out that it looked like a vertebrae or pelvis bone of some kind. I have no idea honestly so my apologies if that is a ridiculous thing to say. We are hoping it is a dinosaur bone, but any kind of fossil would be amazing, especially for my son who is 10 and LOVES dinosaurs and fossils. We hope you can help and I hope the pictures are okay. Please let me know if you need different photos and thank you all so much for your help and contributions to people.

I found this sticking out of the dirt on a hiking trail in southern California, Palos Verdes area. It was on a hill where there are a lot of rocks and I have found some other fossils in the general area (mostly just small plant fossils and a couple of tiny fish fossils). I am trying to figure out what it is. The top is domed, like a half cynlinder, and it has a hole in the middle. The length is about 3 inches. The hole is exactly 1 cm and perfectly round. There is a lighter color to the outside compared with the core (see photo that shows in interior edges of the hole) leading me to think it might be a fossilized bone. One end has a scoop in it that looks like another hole, but is very shallow. The bottom looks more like a regular rock. I read that one way to identify a fossil compared to a rock is to touch your tongue to it. It sticks to the tongue, as would be expected from a fossil. I am thinking it might be a branch with an insect burrow hole in it, or a bone which had a hole carved into it. The hole goes about half an inch in and then stops.

Found while digging in the badlands of Montana in Glendive, in the very corner of the Hell Creek formation we found this single flat piece. At first I only noticed the one hole in the front, but upon closer inspection I discovered a partial second hole above the first, and one side has a structure visible inside the bone. Just wondering if anyone has any clue what it could be! Thanks for any input in advance.

I found this very small mosasaur bone (part of the paddle I assume), and it has a very small hole towards the top. This was found in the Cretaceous North Sulphur River of Ladonia, Texas. There have been a few discussions on other forums whether this is a natural or man-mad occurance. Has anyone else here ever found a mosasaur vertebrae or bone that has a near perfect hole in it? I’m very interested in how this occurred. Thank you for your input!

I was looking in a creek bed for arrow heads and this popped up. I thought it was strange. The core is stone also.

I was on the Dry Frio River and I was climbing up on some limestone boulders and I noticed this square hole in the top of this rock. I have no clue how it got there but there were no rocks in it. Just some dust. No evidence of carving. It's about a foot deep. 5" x 5" square hole. Somebody found an old spongebob fossil maybe. Lol

My latest find while diving off SE NC in 95ft of water - clearly a good day! The site has numerous whale & shark tooth fossils which are eroded from a Limestone ledge overlying compacted grey-blue clay. Can anyone identify a likely candidate for what creates the perfectly round bore holes and hollows in the teeth found around this area - I was told it was some kind of boring mollusc? I have another tooth that resembles Swiss cheese. Many thanks. Duncan.

If you have any clue what this could be, please let me know . Found in Michigan, in our creek buried in sand. I thought it was a bone. I see a hole, then something more inside the hole. I tried posting the best pictures. There is one picture that I got the rock wet. It also looks reddish? Thank you.

Found this on the Peace River this week. The hole was completely filled with sand. Who made this?? It was about 3 feet down in the river bed. About 2.5 in long. Let me know what you guys think??
