OK, I have read the posts about croc tooth versus mosasaur and croc versus alligator. Based on what I read, this could be a mosasaur tooth given the sort of “prismatic” ribbing and lack of any carinae or at least the lack of the two that are equidistant from each other. Anyway, I’m not an expert but would love some help from those more learned. Check out the pics. This is basically from the Calvert formation - but more specifically Horsehead Cliffs area from the water. Thanks for looking!

Ok. Found this one in the Potomac River near Westmoreland State Park / Fossil Beach. It has some enamel toward the narrow end and in the hole. Never seen anything like it and would love some ID help.

Found this in the water near the fossil beach of Westmoreland State Park in Va. Seems like a whale / dolphin bone, but what part? Is it a vert piece? As always, thanks for the help.

Not sure what this is. For a while I thought it was a hemi but the root is not shaped right near the tooth. The root seems to not be whole, but this may not be from a shark. Seems too round to be a shark tooth. Please help!

Can someone confirm or deny whether this is from a bonnet ray? Found over the weekend near Stratford Hall in VA - along the Potomac. Thanks!

Hi Again! for Easter this year I decided to go to the Calvert cliffs for some Easter egg fossil hunting. it was a lovely day out got to talk with some nice folks. I wanted to share some of my finds and my IDs of them to check if I got them right before I put labels on them in my collection. 1) Stingray teeth, most likely eagle ray, although the grayish one looks to me like a duck billed ray. 2) Mako Shark Isurus hastalis upper 3) Hemipristis Serra upper 4) Extinct tiger shark Physogaleus contortus 5) Extinct tiger shark Galeocerdo (I think the one below is a lower) 6) Crab claws ( is there any resources on specific crabs, some of these don't look like they belong to the same species) 7) Turritella plebia 8) Scallop shell (Chesapectean?) 9) Fish jawbone fragment (looks like sockets on the top) 10) Bone shard (there seems to be two divets below)

Hi all. I found this fragment in the surf at Westmoreland State Park, VA, which is part of the Horsehead Cliffs formation. I believe it's part of the miocene as the Calvert Cliffs are. I was just wondering if we think this might be a bone fragment? It looks like it has that spongy appearance of trabeculae. The fragment is just under 2 inches long (4.5 cm) and 3/8 inch wide (about 1cm). It's extremely flat on one side, very irregular and somewhat porous on the other. Vertebra, ribs, skull, perhaps from some marine mammal?
