Before I get stoned to death for posting this here (lame pun intended)…let me just say that I honestly have no clue what I’m looking at here but I am not suggesting, nor am I of the mind—that it’s a fossil, but it was just so strange lookin’ that I couldn’t help my curiosity, so here I am asking for opinions on what caused this to form and what it’s composed of most likely (if anything other than limestone, that is…. (-__-). location- far nw San Antonio, tx , just outside the foothills of the hillcountry (helotes, tx) Again, I do want to apologize if this belongs in a strictly geological forum somewhere, I’d have probably posted it there instead, had I been aware of one existing which was similar to this platform but exclusively for weird ugly rock identification help (lol). Thanks in advance.

Where to find some unprep’d trilobites? Starter prep setup widsom?
NoahW24 posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Hi All! I wanted to see if anyone had advice on where a person might be able to track down some unprepared trilobites on the internet for prep practice? I’m trying to put together a little in-home setup for the winter, but work has been pretty busy and my field time may be limited for finding bugs to liberate from their shaley sleeping bags. Any advice on a starter prep setup would also be greatly appreciated! I’m still working on scraping (ha ha) together a budget for an air-scribe setup… are there any alternative options for slightly rougher but acceptable fossil prep in the meantime, after which I can leave the fine details to an airscribe? Thanks! Noah- 5 replies

Hi guys! So I'm planning to go back to one of the Calvert County beaches to try my luck again- I haven't had any success with finding teeth bigger than about a quarter inch and I'm hoping to find something a little bigger next time. My current technique is to dig up sand from the water and sift through it super carefully- should I switch it up and try something different to find big teeth? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for how to find them? And, final question, which beaches are good for finding larger specimens? I know Purse and Matoaka are good for quantity but I don't know which are best for finding big fossils. I'm still very new to tooth hunting so any help would be appreciated!

My question is how does one tell when something is fossilized, or is a fossil? I know some things just look like they are "fossilized", but what about things like clams or shells? I found myself wondering this while watching one of Paleo Cris' videos. I can't see any difference between a modern shell and the shells he finds in Florida. Maybe it's a touch type of thing. Any information would be appreciated!

Hello everyone. Ive thinking of getting a new computer. The one ive been using is at least 10 years old. Getting a new one scares me cause I have no idea how to get all the stuff from this computer onto a new one? Hold it, I do have all my photos on one of those thingamaboppers and can maybe easily put them onto a new one? but what about email? what about this forum? and a bunch of other things like paypal and our favorite auction site? I used to ask my middle son when it came to the computer stuff. it was easy for him. My son died a little while ago and I have to force myself to stay busy even though it doesnt work most of the time. Having to work on a new computer may keep my mind busy. Thank you RB
