From the album: Holzmaden
This picture shows associated Ichthysaur bones from the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic). It was found by me last year and was prepped by Roger (@Ludwigia). The prep work took about 10 hours. The associated vertebrae are around 13 cm long and at the maximum the piece is 20 cm long. Beside those vertebrae there are also Ichthyosaur ribs and Ichthyosaur paddle bones on the stone. Maybe it was a small Stenopterygius or a young one from another species. The vertebrae: The vertebrae and the ribs: The paddle bones: Some more detailed pictures: This piece is the best one in my collection until now and the vertebrate find of August 2017 !- 7 comments

From the album: Holzmaden
A stone with two ribs, a half vertebra and some rests of some belemnits from the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic). All the bones are Ichthyosaur bones. The story of this one is kinda curious because on the stone was firstly only the damaged vertebra visible. But after a hit with my hammer I saw two cross sections, which belong to Ichthyosaur ribs: After some prep: And some pictures of the result: It was very tough to prep it because the stone is extremely hard and the separation layer between the fossil and stone was bad. I think all in all it took about 5 hours to finish this one. I am not completely satisfied with the result but its okay. -

A 15 cm long plate with some Ichthyosaur ribs from a construction site near Balingen (Germany). I bought it at a fair. Isnt it wonderfully prepped? Another picture:-

Yesterday a packet arrived at my place ... It doesnt look spectacular .... But it contains my prepped Ichtyosaur vertebrae ! About two weeks ago I sent Roger Furze (ludwigia) three Ichthyosaur vertebrae for preparation. And he really did a great job !! All of them are from Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic) and were found in the last or in this year. Enjoy: The first one is a very good preserved Ichthyosaur vertebra. Here is the unprepared condition: And here is it prepared: It is about 3 cm long and I found it last year in Holzmaden. There is a bit pyrite on it, which is very nice ! The other side: And from another angle:
