Hi all, Apologies if I ruffle feathers with my ignorance of how things work around here but I did check out the posting guidelines. An initial and sound ID of the type of bone was made by the "Fossil Guy", Paul Murdoch, but it would be nice to narrow it down a little more than that. I've attached an archive of photos of all angles of the bone. The specimen weighs 99 g, and has overall dimensions of 77 mm * 52 mm * 39 mm, and I can do a displacement test to get its true density and volume if that helps with the ID. The fossil (so far unverified IN PERSON but passes match and taste test; taking to the ROM in Toronto for ID next week) was found off the north coast of Prince Edward Island while snorkeling in August of this year. It looked like a chunk of electrical insulator half-buried in the sand, but when I dove down to retrieve it, I noticed that it didn't feel like any material I've ever handled before, so I took it back and let it dry. This was found in 50' proximity of 30' tall red sandstone cliffs, being eroded by the warming waters of the gulf of the St. Lawrence. Based on the red staining of the specimen, I suspect it's a part of a skeleton either distributed along the bottom of the ocean in the area or still in the side of the cliff. Any help in narrowing down the age and former owner of this bone would be much appreciated! I apologize for the zip file but it only contains images. Thanks! James fossilphotoswithscale.zip

I found these bits in the LaSalle Limestone member of the Bond Formation (Pennsylvanian). They were in a huge boulder and I could not remove them unfortunately. No clue what they could be. Any thoughts?

Hi! Can anyone help me out to identify this partial tooth? I was told that it belongs to a white-tailed deer but i don't see any similarities with it, cause i do have also partial tooth from that type of deer? The chewing zone on tooth although partial doesn't look to me as a deer tooth. So what it could be then? I know that is found somewhere in Florida and that belongs to Pleistocene period. It's pretty strange though. Darko

Found these in a small creek in North Florida. Have no idea what they could be. They could potentially fit together (they were found together)?? Unsure. That's my fossil hunting partners guess, but we're both pretty clueless. Manatee jaw? Help!

Found these two teeth in a creek in north texas. I believe the first may be a partial horse and the second a crocodile? Any help would be appreciated as always.

Found this today on the North Sulfur River. I can’t tell if it’s a vertebra or a cross section of bone or something completely different- I’m not familiar with the concentric circle in it.

Hello! I recently purchased an online lot from an estate sale and got near 100 pieces of collected material. I got some nice pieces, although nothing is in great quality but im hoping I have some rare tooth or something. While I already sorted the hoard, 50% was unidentifiable so I just took the interesting looking ones that I knew nothing about. Any help is appreciated! If anyone would like to know the dimensions, I will be more then happy to do so. Weird piece, the bottom solid bit feels almost like plastic. I also have some peices with some mineral residue on it. I am unsure where this all came from but it seemed like a very interested place to collect. These were labeled as whale inner ear bones, however, they do not look like the stuff I see on google. Some sort of tooth Could be a small horse tooth? This was just labeled porpoise tooth. The first side looks like a belemnite phragmacone but the other side reminds me of a hadrosaur? Super long root with a tooth attached. It is not very good quality, but I can at least make out that it is definitely a separate piece at the tip This was labeled as mastodon cusp A weird button lookin thang. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Tooth - Real or Fake ?
EthanCook01 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone, Today I was in Weymouth (south of England) when I stumbled upon a popular fossil shop. The shop specializes in selling a variety of both fossil replicas and 'fossils'. While I was there I stumbled across a selection of Mosasaur teeth with the root kept inside a locked cabinet. I decided to purchase one of them for £10. So what I was wondering is if the tooth and root are real or not as I am still sceptical. Can anyone give any insight?
