Hi, I'm new to the forum and relatively new to fossil hunting. I've been collecting rocks for years, but only last year realized how easy it is to find fossils in my new state. I'm hoping the folks around here can help me identify what I find! I'll start with a nodule I collected at Mazonia-Braidwood State Park (IL) yesterday. Three views of the same fossil. Any thoughts on what this is?

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! Thanks to all of you who try to help the less educated such as myself (at least in this field of study). I occasionally come across the remnants of back-office dumpsters from ancient dental offices where mammals would go to get teeth pulled. Ok, joking.. but seriously, I’ve reviewed some helpful threads on tooth identification but I’m not confident in what I see. 1) do my photos give enough of a view to say with confidence what they belonged to? 2) can you help me identify these? Let’s count 1-6 starting with upper left. Don’t worry about identifying the hand, that’s mine. I think #1 upper left is camel. I don’t know about #2. I think #3 (upper right) is bison? Thanks in advance! These are all from Johnson County and Tarrant County TX. Mostly Tarrant County.

Hi.. I got some isolated tooth of bat probably 4 to 5 different species of Chiropteran due to similarity its being difficult for me to identify their species. I am looking for an expert to help me out to identify or guide me or share some helpful material. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hi everyone! I was in SE Minnesota recently, looking through limestone outcrops where I have found cephalopods on a previous trip to Mystery Caves, MN. While looking for more cephalopods during my most recent trip to Fillmore County (and finding a few) I found this piece shown below. The fossil is likely Ordovician aged, as is common in SE Minnesota. The formation I am less sure about, but if I had to make a good scientific guess, it is the Galena formation. My question is if this is a cephalopod fossil that is just heavily eroded, of is this just a cool rock? I decided to also flip the fossil with my hand to better see the ends. Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi Everyone, This rock came from Northwest Arkansas on a steep hillside of a creek valley. The rocks in this area very often contain trace fossils. I broke this rock open, and found what looks like an animal claw. I'm going to post a picture of the rock (both halves), a close up of where the object came from, then three pictures of the object itself. You'll notice that the tip of the "claw" is hollow. Is this from an animal, or is it just some kind of coral?

Found this slab of limestone digging out an old garden wall. I think it’s a large plant or small tree, approximately 15 inches long and 3-4 inches across. Not much detail visible in either end. Any help?

Hey there! This was found in southwestern Colorado, less than 100 miles from the Utah border, and I was wondering if y'all could tell me what it is or might be. Its not completely symmetrical, one side is a little thicker than the other. If you need any more details or anything, let me know please. This is my first post so forgive me if I didn't give enough info. Anyways, It would be cool to know what it is. I think a tooth :-) Thanks!

Got this trilobite at a show on the weekend, was wondering if anyone could possibly help me identify the species. (I know there are a lot of trilobite species so I’m not sure if this will even be possible). The place I got it from said they source their fossils from Madagascar, Morocco, and France. Not sure exactly where this guy came from tho. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and would like help in telling if this rock I found this summer is indeed a fossil. I found it in the Loire Valley which I think was mostly sea and where fossils are pretty uncommon (which is why I have my doubts on this rock really being a fossil).

Hi everyone, I found what looks like a fossil or a petrified part of an animal, and I'm fascinated by it. It's around 52cm long and an average of 17cm in width. I don't have a suitable scale to weigh it but would estimate between 32-35kg. I found it in Aljouf province in the north of Saudi Arabia. I'm eager to learn more about this intriguing find and am grateful for any guidance or expertise you can provide.

I received recently several ammonites and I would like to ask for some help identifying the fossils so I can appropriately tag them (species, age, etc) This is the info I received from each fossil: 1. Found in Sakahara, Madagascar. 2. Found in Gundelsheim in Baden-Württenberg, Germany. 3, 4, 5 ,6 Found in Marloffstein, Germany 7. Found in Sengenthal bei Neumarkt i.d. oberpfalz, Germany. Parkisonia. 8. Found in Marloffstein, Germany 9. Found in Saratov Russia, Jurassic. 10. No info 11. Found in Swabian Alps. (are these two real or carved?) Thank you in advance!

I live in morocco and everytime i got to Marrakech,i would go buy fossils from shops and i always recognize 50 percent of the time if it's fake or real but that is the problem,i can never know if it's real or false with teeth and i was just wandering if anyone knows a way to identify a fossil while buying it and not seem suspicious to the seller. Father-in-law recently gave me this fossil he found when he was a kid near the Calvert cliffs formation in MD. He said at one point he was told it was a whale or dolphin vertebra fossil, any more information on it would be greatly appreciated if anyone on here has any. Thanks!

Found these in a gravel pit pile -NE Nebraska wanting some help on identification. Are the teeth bison? I’m thinking the horn core is also bison, unsure on the metapodial (maybe deer?) and other small piece! Any help on the big fragmented piece would be awesome, seems to be mineralized about 2cm thick or so. TIA!

Hi, A few yeras ago I found that in muschelkalk. One paleontologist says it is the rear of a nothosaurus skull... I have some difficulties to see that. Any help would be great ;-) Size : 17cm long

My great grandfather majorly shaped who I am today by getting me introduced to biology, paleontology, and earth sciences at a young age. He left me with many fossils that he had gone out and found himself, picking about in the Mazon Creek Formation of the Carboniferous. Among the ferns and leaves I had found this one, it looks a lot like a negative impression of an invert to me, although I could also see it being a leaf impression. I'm pretty immature so I'd appreciate any help, thank you
