    ID for a Newbie Please

Hello, I am a new member as of today but have been reading for a while. My son and I have recently gotten into rock collecting. We haven’t gone fossil collecting yet but hope to do so soon. We found these in Inland Southern California in the foothills of the Big Bear area. The site was next to a river or what’s left of it this time of year anyway. I have tried to rule out pseudofossils and different types of rocks. These also remind me of what a ranger described to me as jellyfish fossils while visiting the Bristlecone Pine area in CA. Similar samples were also on display. The second (larger rust colored spotting) might be igneous but I believe the first is sedimentary. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

T rex Hell Creek tooth ?

Hello I am new to this site and I was hoping that someone could help me out. I friend of mine a few years back borrowed some money and gave me what he said was a T Rex tooth from the Hell Creek formation as collateral I was recommended to this sight by Shawn at fossil era . I was hoping that someone could help me identify the tooth and give me an approximate value I am not sure that i am interested in selling the tooth because it is so cool and I know I will probably never get another one. any information would be greatly appreciated Thank you in advance Brad

    Unknown

I have no idea what this could be, fossil or rock. It was found in the creek behind our house like most everything else I have posted, in Bucks County, Pa, not far from the Delaware river.

Bird egg fossils? I'm a new member.

Hello, I found these fossilized 'eggs' taped together at a pawn shop in Kalispell, Montana. I know nothing about them but they are really cool! Does anyone know what they are? The more oval one is about 2" long by 1.5" wide. The more round one is about 1-9/16" x 1-13/16". They were sliced in half when I found them. The one that looks slightly developed ha some missing 'yoke' around the center small circle but is close to fully intact. They are fascinating but I don't know much. I'm a newbie. Thank you for any help.

    Help settle the score lol!

Hi! Usually I'm pretty good at identifying crystals or minerals but this one I cant quite figure out. So a friend of mine is convinced its green calcite, another says green tourmaline however, I feel it's low grade epidote. Either way I'm at a loss. Who's right? Lol Ive taken normal photos and macro of some of the crystals. The crystal is also wet from a quick rinse. any help is greatly appreciated

    Help me identify this fossil

Can you please help me identify these? I found them in my backyard in Fort Worth (Dallas), Texas, and approximately 15in diameter. Are these things that i should find someone to give them to or are they okay to throw away? thanks!

    Coral?

Hiya!! So I rather impulsively purchased a piece of coral from the local Rock and Gem shop. I bought it more for visual but now I'm curious as to the name. I have no idea where it came from or anything so sorry I can't be much help in that regard. Any help is greatly appreciated (especially based on limited info).

    Strange Rock Patterns

So a family member of mine found a large bolder in an area that has been known for having some fossils of fish and tracks. It doesn't look like anything but the patterns are odd enough where I can't determine if they are fossils or just mineral marks. Any help is appreciated!

  13. Hello all, I am looking for good reference material to identify fossils I picked up at Rockford, IA. I haven't been able to find a really good publication that covers the majority of what is find-able in Iowa's Devonian deposits and I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Fossils found at woodland near my house

Hi guys, second post about fossils found in the same woodlands near my house as the last, will post the geology of the area and some more photos and views, first looks like some sort of clam/scallop and the second a mixture of bones? Thanks guys
  15. These fossils were found by me in a woodland by my house, the area it was found in was rich in clay and moss, the first fossil intrigued me most as It definetly looks like a very faded ammonite, can clay yield good fossils though? and are these even fossils, thanks. And the final one.

    Sun Pyrite?

I went on my first ever fossil hunting trip at Mazonia Lakes last week. I found a few fossils in what I think is limestone and chert (?) and a few possible concretions. I hit this one with a hammer and it opened easily. I have been trying to identify what it is by looking online. Thanks for your help.
  17. Simple question is this trilobite real partially real or completely fake I understand much of large Cambrian trilobites are completely fake and have no actual genuine fossil remains in them I would like to be informed of which category this "fossil" falls into thanks in advance. (I'm expecting all the replies to be fake if it is completely fake with no fossil remains at all I ask for advice on what to look for next time I know most of the common signs only after the purchase of the "fossil" but before I completely give up the idea of a genuine fossil I figured some more experienced people could look at it again thanks in advance.

    Ammonite identification

Hi Guys. This ammonite was found and given to me by my father. The location this was found at is unknown to me, I do know however it was somewhere along the coast between Whitby-filey beach in the United Kingdom. Anybody have any idea what kind of ammonite this could be, and if indeed it is, And if this is a decent specimen, real or not. This was found around 12 years ago now. Thanks guys.

    Mazon Creek fossils or rocks?

So I bought thirteen Mazon creek nodules for 99 cents (am I allowed to say that?) and two fossils are apparent. The rest might be just rocks but I don't know enough to say that confidently, so for the next while I'm going to post them and I hope you all can tell me if I missed a fossil. Here are four, two is the most promising. Also, are those bumps that are on most anything?Thank you and good luck!
