Hello! I see this skin impression. What do you think about quality? Is a skin impression or mummy skin? The seller told me that belong to Kritosaurus. Thank you so much.

This looks too nice to be real o.o
empowereddave posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
This looks too clean to be real, especially considering all the frog fossils I see are of bones only. If this isn't a natural formation, how in the heck was this done? Cause it looks like real rock at the very least to me, and the negative impression itself does look natural(the edges of the frog features look weathered), apart from the incredible detail. Sorry if this is obviously fake, I don't think I've ever looked at more than a couple fossils in my entire life :/ -

Hey guys new here. Bought this item at an antique store and it looks authentic at some points but not at others. The amount of detail makes me think it is too real to be a replica. Let me know what you think.

I've been digging through an old stash of fossils I collected years ago, and came across this thing. I seem to remember finding it about 20 years ago whilst out walking in North East Wales, UK. It is quite lightweight for the size, and makes a very different sound compared to the dull thud of a rock, when tapped with a fingernail. There also appears to be some sort of impression prominent on the "inside" curve. I expect this to be something geological (or even archaeological), but on the off-chance anyone has an inkling what it might be, you'd be putting years of curiosity to rest! Also, there are small features throughout the rock/specimen, with some parallel looking grooves amongst them:

Yes, you read that right. I have a piece of amber with an impression, not an inclusion. I got a small order of Indonesian amber in on Monday & 1 piece had an interesting impression. The size of the impression is 2.5 cm wide x 3 cm tall & curved in an almost 1/2 circle as you will see by the pics. I'm seeing what appears to be a leaf of some sort, veins & all. I've never heard of an impression in amber before, not saying they don't exist, just that I had never heard of one. Indonesian amber is Early Miocene @ 10 to 23 MYO if that helps any. Pics 1 & 2 show the impression, 3 & 4 show the curvature. This particular amber type tends to be called zebra or cloudy amber for obvious reasons. The white areas are who knows how many tiny air bubbles trapped in the resin. This is (obviously) one piece I'm not going to be doing anything with. It's staying as is. I'm now going to search for impressions in amber on the web (this should be fun)..

Another view showing an area of what I do not know. I'm guessing it involves nerve fibers/channels. -

Another view showing more channels/cross sections of blood flow(the small solid dark gray areas), and nerve channels. I'm not entirely sure what the large dark areas are, although I believe it to be related to blood flow as well. -

2 pieces of a triceratops skull with brain case impression. Blood vessels, veins, and arteries visible, as well as nerve channels. I have to contact in order to get the fossil information again. -
How could this possibly happen??? How would they eyes be so dark while the rest is barely visible? And not just that, how are the eyes just the silhouettes, and not solid? It's not like they were made of anything different, or different in any other way. They couldn't be have been fossilized in different ways. is this possibly genuine??? I totally trust this persons other stuff, this one just seems so impossible to me.

This "river rock" came from a bag purchased at a home center in Illinois so the place it was originally found is unknowable. Can someone help me identify this, please? It is a cylindrical impression of something with rings. In my mind's eye I'm seeing a plant stem or reed of some sort buried in mud near a stream or pond, but I'm virtually clueless about these things and would appreciate it is a more knowledgeable kind soul would offer a more informed opinion! Is it plant? Animal? Insect? Approximate age? Thank you!

I'm getting braver and will venture that there is at least one crinoid columnal mold preserved in this formation. I'm fairly certain, however, that the other two most prominent molds are not of a crinoid. How am I doing?
-
I now understand that these are likely molds, but of what I don't know. I am learning a great deal, though, and am so glad to have found this place!

I'm not sure if this is an impression or trace fossil, so educate me on the difference please, but it's definitely something. I enhanced the color only slightly so y'all can see it better.

I have two Triassic coprolites from the Bull Canyon Formation, Quay County, NM. The first one has an impression/imprint that I have not been able to identify. The second has a protrusion sticking out of it. I had hoped that by prepping out the the protrusion, I would get lucky and it would match up with the marks on the other. Unfortunately, I now have two things that I can't identify. @Carl 1. Is there anyone out there that wants to take a stab at identifying the imprint in this one? It does appear that there are some remnants (white) of whatever it was that made the marks.

It's located here in Alberta, Canada, but I can't say for sure this is where it came from. It's been passed down a few generations, but has essentially been sitting in a flower bed for the past 40+ years. I really know nothing about it.
