Dear All, I just wanted to make you all aware, (to my detriment) , some recent experiences I've has with purchasing Megalodon Teeth from Indonesia. This is not a name and shame post, simply my experiences with a 'grey area'. I've purchased many teeth recently and most are 100% A ok. However, the dealers are fully aware of the value realized from 5.5 inch plus teeth and this has resulted in a swathe of monster teeth being offered to the market. Now, I'm an idiot and need no reminding, but I fell for this trick about a month ago. The seller seemed genuine enough and the transaction was carried out Via PayPal, so I had insurance. After purchasing 3 or 4 decent teeth she started to offer me massive 6.5 and sometimes 7 inch teeth that had a ''tiny bit of restoration' to the root. I looked long and hard at the photos and concluded that the blades look ok but the roots likely completely restored. I was happy with this and so took a punt. The 4 teeth arrived and I decided to let Mr. Acetone do his worse. I was interested to see if indeed it was just the roots that had been restored. It became obvious that all these teeth had been manipulated to look a lot bigger than they were - extending the blade length using donor parts. The quality of work is actually pretty impressive. I just wanted to make you all aware. Luckily PayPal had me covered but they begged me to do a "Friends and Family'' transaction. If the price is too good to be true...well... Be careful, they are faking a lot of other fossils, such as crabs too.

Mastodon Tusk from Java Indonesia

I`m new to colllecting mammal fossils and thinking about buiyng this tusk. The seller said its a mastodon tusk and no the usual stegodon tusk, which seems pretty common. Couldn`t find much information about mastodons from indonesia. So I`m wondering if its real and also how "rare" is it?

I just bought 2 partial stegodon jaw`s with some megs from indonesia. Shoud I put something on them to conserve them? Thansk a lot

Hello All, I came across this fossil at a local rock and gem store and I'm having a go at preparing it. Apparently it is from Indonesia and I believe is a Thalassina, although with the spindle like legs I haven't seen anything that looks like an exact match. Here's my question; the fossil is covered with a sticky coarse sandstone, and I'm wondering how much of the matrix I should leave between joints in the tail and between the legs on the main body. I'm not sure if removing too much matrix will just cause the fossil to fall apart, but I suspect it might. Has anyone had experience with these fossils before and be able to lend a rookie some advice? Cheers, Ryan

Hi Guys and gals, does anyone know what jaw bone and teeth this belongs too? its upto or around 2million years old and is from java indonesia, found in the same deposits as stegodon, hippo rhino, bison and so on.. i just can't place it, some better photos of the teeth would help but i don't have them yet... many thanks

hafa adai I recently purchased a flat of fossils from a guy I've been buying from in Indonesia (I know a guy... LOL). The ID card with this one said "rhinoceros", Miocene from Java, Indonesia. I have only ever seen rhino molars from there, which this is clearly not. Internet searches for rhino incisors however, yield teeth which are more tusk-like. I'm not really familiar with rhino dentition, so I thought I would appeal for assistance. Is it rhinoceras? thanks!

Claiming these are stegodon tusks

I’ve been offered a good deal on these tusks and i can’t determine if they are real or not from the photos. I can’t seem to see the Schreger lines from the photos. I have mastodon tusk and mammoth tusk that I know is real because I found it, but this is a bit of a head scratcher for me. Does anyone who is familiar with identifying ivory from photos have a clue? Thank you!

Indonesian Meg - Restorations?

I have here 3 Indonesian Megs. They were declared as no repairs or restorations. I now have them in person, and they look fine. I ran them under a UV, and I am suspicious of the dark spots on the roots, but I think that may be some of the top layer of the root leftover while the rest of the root eroded. Additionally, the second tooth may have some restoration to the left side of the serrations, near the base of the crown. I'd love some more eyes on this please, does anyone see any red flags? Hi, I have an Indonesian Meg on matrix. I didn't expect the matrix to be so soft. It's chipping. Is there any way to stabilize it? I was thinking coating it in an Elmers and water mix.

I have here a 5.7" Indonesian Megalodon. I don't see any red flags for repairs or restorations but more eyes on this would be lovely. Anyone see anything I may have missed? Thank you, Bellamy

I have a few fossils from the Miocene of Cidolog, West Java, Indonesia, and I'm not sure what they are. I've ruled out sharks and crocodile teeth. Here are photographs of just one such find; the others look very similar so if this can be identified, I'll be able to identify the rest too. It's 1/2" long. My best guess is pufferfish mouthplate. A few more Indonesian megs here I’m looking into. I’m mostly concerned about the roots and cementum areas. any major restorations you are seeing? I love the colors of the blades and just want to make sure I’m not getting hosed on anything fake. Thanks so much for all your input and expertise .

Miocene Fossil Agatized/Silicified Coral from Indonesia

Below are pictures of Miocene agatized/silicified coral pieces from Indonesia. Unpolished white coral piece (1.3 kg 135mm x 105mm x 65mm) Unpolished yellow agatized coral piece (.5 kg 50mm x 80mm x 80mm ) 14 polished black coral pieces (largest: 342 grams 120mm x 50mm x 40mm Smallest: 70 grams 73mm x 40mm x 3to 17mm ) Note there is also white silicified coral and small amounts of red and yellow agatized coral mixed in. There is one close-up picture from each of the 14 pieces of coral. Black right next to white Some red and yellow mixed in Marco Sr.

I have here a Meg tooth, around 6", that has been repaired. No restorations have been declared, but I wanted to make sure there were no red flags. Does there appear to be any restorations on this tooth? Thank you, Bellamy

This is supposed to be a Xantho (Lophoxanthus) Scaberrimus from West Java,Indonesia. It looks blatantly fake to me (no articulations on the chelae!?) - or, do such "carving like" fossils actually exist? Several are being on offer now on that auction site, which is doubly suspicious. Thanks in advance

I have here an alleged Carcharodon carcharias tooth from the Pliocene of Surabaya, West Java, Indonesia. It's 1.8 cm in length. I have my suspicions because it looks wide like a Meg. I'd like some further opinions. Thank you, Bellamy
