Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little advice on how to ship heavy fossils internationally (from the USA to the UK). I thought the forum might be a good place to ask, as quite a few of you may have done this in the past. I have the opportunity to purchase around 500kg (around 1000 pounds) of small fossils from someone in the US. I'm sure I've read members discuss sending fossils back from Tuscon in the past using shipping containers and guess this would probably be the best way to go. Any advice on how this works would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone! We’re close to having our house packed up for our move from England to the US. I have a lot of fossils that need packing but I’m really nervous about it all. My main concern is what I should do as far as who packs them. Would you let the movers pack them (and if anything is damaged in transit then you can claim it) or would you pack it yourself? My problem is that if the movers pack it, they don’t really care and some things are definitely going to be damaged, but if I pack it and it’s damaged then I don’t get compensated. Ugh, I’m so frustrated over this! Also, I have a few riker cases so should I take the fossils out of them or would a piece of felt on the inside between glass and fossils be enough to protect everything. I’m at a loss on how to move internationally with fossils! Any advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Edited to add: I also have a bottle of Paraloid that I would like shipped with me. Most packing people won’t allow liquid, and some don’t care and will pack anything. Is that something I can pack in my checked luggage or should I just say goodbye to it and get more at our next base?

Hi all, Many of us have had experience with shipping, let it be with fossil trades or with new purchases. Often, I see people in the US saying "will keep postage within the US", as otherwise the shipping costs will be too much. And I do see that sometimes incoming packages from the US cost about 22$ just for an envelope, or 34$ for a small parcel! For me, those are exhilarating prices. On the other hand, shipping from the Netherlands is very inexpensive. Sending (internationally) an envelope of: - up to 20 grams costs 2,66 euros - 20-50 grams is 4 euros - 50-200 grams is 7 euros I usually only send mall fossils, so very rarely parcels, but even with parcels the prices are much lower than in other countries. (Those prices are without Track & code, and without signing) Anyways, I was wondering, what are your shipping costs (for international)? I can make a graph if you want showing all my shipping costs, if people are more interested. Regards, Max

Hi all, I hope you don't mind but I want to piggy back some questions off of a couple of other posts I've seen recently about transporting and buying fossils legally and going through customs. To make it simple, my husband is US military and we are stationed in England. I've bought several fossils while here and discovered a few (very minor ones, so far) on my own. After seeing a few posts, I'm beginning to get a little concerned that I may not be able to take them back with me, or to another overseas location. I want to keep collecting but I'm hesitant if I can't bring them with me. If anyone has been in a similar situation or knows a good answer, I'd love to hear about it. Thank you!
