  1. Location is kem kem beds, seller said less than 5% restoration. I know nothing about claws but this one almost looks too good to be true and too perfect but I’m not sure how to definitively tell if it’s real or fake
  2. Toast123

Is this a T. Rex tooth?

1 inch tooth. Seller says it’s a T. Rex tooth, from what I’ve seen the T. rex teeth are more robust this one looks narrow but I’m not sure. From hell creek
  3. 7 inches long, seller stated it has repairs but no restoration. He said the root is from the original tooth, the root looks suspect but I’m no expert
  4. First of all I would say where it came from but idk I’ve had it for about 8 yrs now and just came across it going threw old boxes. I inherited it from my grandpa I know he was in the us navy for 40 years and I’d like to think thats how he acquired it being he was all over the place but idk and no one left in fam to ask when and where he got it. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated. Where it from how old it is and if it’s even real thanks a bunch
  5. Here’s a mosasaur being offered. Any red flags or areas of concern? Thanks!
  6. Hiya everyone purchased this keichosaur this morning kinda spur of the moment any help would be great
  7. I recently came across a cool-looking piece with three different shells close together in a matrix, but despite my attempt to Google some pointers while I was pondering if I wanted it or not, I'm simply not trained up enough to determine if fossils are real. There's some parts that some articles were talking about that make me think it could be real, and others that make me think not so much... I have a feeling the matrix maybe isn't the original, but I'm hoping perhaps the shells themselves are still fossilized? But I'm really not sure -- anyways, the pictures I took are below. I hope they give you enough information/context to help me out, and that there aren't a whole bunch of superfluous details that I chose to focus on! Sorry for how big and in the way of the post they are, I'm still trying to figure out how to make posts look nicer ^^;
  8. Hi everyone, I got this rather nice looking Metacanthina recently as a present as well as some other trilobites (which have sadly turned out to be clear fabrications after some research, clear bubbles etc.) This one looked more convincing and I have gone over it with a magnifying glass but couldn't see any details various websites told me to look out for. Was wondering if someone with more experience could spot anything suspect! There is a crack along the matrix and on the rear of it's right eye some lens detail can be seen. Thanks thumbnail (1).jfif thumbnail (2).jfif thumbnail (3).jfif thumbnail.jfif
  9. Is this trilobite real? How often have we seen this question? Since folks are often asking I thought I'd toss in this obvious fake that I got in a bulk rock buy years ago. I'm no pro but I couldn't even find any real parts of this thing. I'll point out what I see and others can add their ideas Here is overall from top Here is closer shot of the front showing a few big problems. 1: the crack running around the side of the trilobite shows where the fake bug is separating from the base. They take a chunk of matrix, carve out a hole then glue on a molded fake. Then glue on powdered rock to cover the glue lines. 2: there are no details on this trilobite. They didn't even try to fake the eyes. The body is painted on. And here you can see the bubble holes from the resin / plaster used to mold the whole thing. And again, no detail what so ever. The fossil is very, very rough. No smooth lines, everything looks chisled in. Another thing to look at, when looking at the matrix overall, there is no repaired crack thru the matrix. These trilobites (like most Moroccan trilobites) are found by breaking chunks of rock looking for the black/brown lines of the trilobite shell. Then the rock is marked where the fossil is and glued back together. They then prep down to the trilobite. So, a repaired crack running thru the fossil is very common. Even though this is a bad fake I'm keeping it to use for showing what to look out for.
  10. Hi I bought this a few years ago when i was much less experienced. I always knew that this was most likely fake, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
  11. Bought from a fossil website. Considerably new to fossil hunting/collecting. Please help me out:)
  12. Hello I am trying to figure out if this specimen is real or if parts of it are composites. I do know that a protective coating has been put on to protect it, and that it had to be glued together once, but I am not sure if the digits on the hands are real or if the ribs are real. Thanks!
  13. Hi All Just another novice here looking for some thoughts on whether a Keichosaurus is real or fake or compounded. Any thoughts welcome.
  14. Hello I'm a newbie fossil collector (and newly active member) who happens to several interesting fossils for a decent price from our favorite auctions sites 1st is are Knightia. The seller claims that they are not restored or enhanced 2nd set are 4 Spinosaurus teeth. The seller claims that cracks have been repaired, but no restoration or composition has been made (Pictures 2-9 of teeth in pairs) 3rd is a Lycoptera which the seller claims is not restored or enhanced 4th are plates of Elrathia Trilobites from Wheeler Formation 5th are Fossil Ferns from Llewellyn Formation 6th is a Hyracodon jaw fragment I would like to ask if the sellers' description of the items are accurate and/or if they are restored, enhanced or composites. Cheers!
  15. I have a possible dino egg that a friend gave me from Paonia Colorado and my guess is a stegosaurus because there are numerous stegosaurus bones in Colorado can someone please Identify this. Also the picture is not high quality.
  16. Greetings all, I have found a third interesting keichousaurus. Compared to the other two I think this one looks better in my opinion. But as per usual I don’t have experience with keichousaurus so I would like some advice. Please let me know what you all think!
  17. Greetings all! I have found another Keichousaurus that looks very interesting. I do have some concerns about it, mostly the head looks almost drawn on (could just be me). Let me know what you all think!
  18. Greetings all! im tempted to pull the trigger on this keichousaurus but I am hesitant due to being inexperienced with them. I see some white specks on the bone and I haven’t seen that before so it popped up some red flags however, I am not experienced with them nor do I know enough to confidently say real or fake. On the back of the matrix it has another smaller keichousaurus. Please let me know what you all think!
  19. So I had been browsing for some new fossils, and stumbled over a nice Moroccan fossil on a seemingly american website. And they're selling this (almost fantastic) fossil, of a part of a skull, allegedly from either a Carcharodontosaurus or a Deltadromeus (Most likely not a delta). But is it legit?
