This must come from Maine, where virtually everything is Devonian/Silurian marine. I was just whacking a piece that I had dropped off in front of the garage, at some time, with a hammer before tossing it on the fill pile when I noticed this. The whole thing, pieced back together, is about 3 cm long. One short section from the middle is not in the post. It looks sort of like a hollow golf tee. It seems to be entirely made up of beekite. No ?

First-time poster here. I found this curiosity in a stream leading to the bay in Huntingtown MD after the torrential rains. Its solid, no wood material left. Very hard, not brittle. The perfect slice is puzzling! How could it transformed so quickly since the invention of the chainsaw or even a bow saw???? Threw one in of my son and a few of our almost private beach.

Help with Knightia fossil.
ynaffit posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi, I'm a beginner with fossils and recently purchased a Knightia fossil for 50 New Zealand dollars. When I got home I took a look and noticed it appeared painted. I've researched and apparently people often paint over to enhance it and make it look better. The question is, is it fake? I don't mind if it's painted over for looks but I will be disappointed if it's completely fake. Has to be painted, now I'm just wondering whether it's a genuine fossil or not
