Hello, I have just received this partial lower jaw, it is supposed to be from Leptomeryx evansi, but i have seen many skulls of L. evansi on the internet, and this doesn't look similar. It comes from the Oligocene of Orella member, Brule formation; South Dakota. I have got three questions; Who did this jaw belong to? What part of the jaw did these teeth occupy? Is that hole on the first photo normal? Or was made by an animal or disease? Thanks to everyone!

Acquired this Miocene Dolphin Jaw section and have now had someone say is from a pinniped... I'm unsure on the mammal fossils, so some expert advice is needed... Item was purchased as follows: This Miocene fossilized dolphin jaw piece was found in eastern, North Carolina, USA. This fossil jaw piece measures approximately 3.39" from side to side. There is NO restoration or repair on this fossil.

Fighting a sinus infection but made it out to the river today for a brief look. Southeast Texas gravel bar. Mostly Pleistocene, but older fossils are theoretically possible from exposures up river. Didn't find much since the river is up, but my most interesting find was this jaw fragment with some teeth intact. Since the biting surfaces are so worn, I'm having trouble with an ID. Is it possible to ID this based on tooth size/shape/location in the jaw? Or to at least narrow it down more so I can refine what type of teeth I should be comparing it to? Thanks. --Brandy

I can't see what animal this is. It looked like oreodont at first, but it has the wrong tooth anatomy. It is the same with leptomeryx, looks like it, but wrong tooth anatomy. Can anyone help with this one? Is it many a new species? It's from the badlands in South Dakota

Hello! I saw a jaw fragment for sale from the kem kem beds, it's identified as crocodile. I've seen picsc of crocodile jaws before and that they have like a pitted texture, I don't see that very clearly on this one, but since this is out of my expertise I want to ask you guys who has more knowledge. Could it be something else like a spinosaurid?

Small jaw found in Southeast Texas. Looks consistent with the other Pleistocene fossils I've found in the area. Since everyone was able to help with the other jaw, I figured I'd give this one a shot. Thanks for any help!

Hi everyone! This has been kind of a labor of love for me for the past few months. About a year ago I acquired a wholesale lot of 1000 Squalicorax pristodontus for use in little fossil collections I make to sell. As I was going through them I noticed the differences in shape and on a whim that turned into a labor of love thought "I'm going to see if I can make a composite jaw of this species". I checked around and couldn't find anything on a reconstructed jaw from S. pristodontus so everything is my own approximation by comparing all the teeth to each other to look for similarities is angle and proportions, similarities to smaller Squalicorax that have been reconstructed, and similarities to the modern Tiger shark (which in my opinion and I think I saw this elsewhere as well has the most similar teeth of any modern shark to pristodontus) to figure out how many teeth where in a row and where to place them. The project took on a life of it's own in my down time and here is the end result. Anyway, I was hoping to get some feedback on it.

This jaw fragment was found when washing clay that I brought from Carniol. Cretaceous, Aptian, Gargasian. On Reddit it was identified as Saurian and I was hoping (but doubting) a more accurate identification would be possible. Really happy with this find anyhow. more information about Carniol and my trip there

Seller says its Kem Kem. I don't think it is, because it looks like a mosasaur, but I don't think there are any Kem Kem mosasaurs. I don't think the matrix looks like Ouled Abdoun either. It looks like Goulmima to me, so am I right that it is a Tethysaurus jaw? Thanks.

Hey all This has popped up on a local auction site, I have a couple of Enchodus fangs and a caudal fin in my collection and this jaw section would be a nice addition - if it passes the scrutiny of the experts! Is it Enchodus? Can you spot any repairs? I would assume based on the very fragile nature of the jawbone this is in the original matrix? The ad doesn't have much detail - I've added the only 2 pics supplied --------------------- Enchodus partial jaw fossil from Khourigba, Morocco, North Africa. Upper Cretaceous Period - 90 Million Years Old. Jaw itself is 5cm in length. --------------------

I bought this a long time ago. The seller only said that it came from Morocco and was in the Cretaceous period. I guess it might be a crocodile jaw?

Hi again! If you saw my thread from yesterday, you'll know I bought some Moroccan fossils for dirt cheap that turned out to be pretty nice. I went to the same dealer today and bought three more for the same price. I suppose I will start with the worst (most suspicious) first: I saw this vertebra and liked how it looked, so I bought it. I'm totally fine with spending $20 for a vert recreation, too, so no big deal if it's fake. What makes me suspicious is the place where it's chipped, it looked like there was paint flaking off. I guess I'm asking, how much of it is real and what is it supposed to be an imitation of? Okay, next is a Globidens tooth and root in matrix. A little beat up, but still cool: Lastly, a weird jaw that I have no clue about. Like I said, I'm not a vertebrate guy. One of the teeth is banged up and looks repaired, but I thought it was cool anyway: Well guys, thanks for looking, I hope you'll find them as interesting as I did! And I said I'd tag @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon, maybe you can help.

I just returned from a dig near Baker, Montana. I found this part of an Edmontosaurus jaw with the teeth replaced by siderite. I thought it was a rare replacement. If important, the KT boundary was very visible on this ranch. The section is about 3 inches by 3 inches.

Another Mosasaur jaw real or fake!? Or somewhere in-between?

Hi there! I'm new to the forum. I recently picked up a mosasaur jaw, my first fossil. Question is it real or fake, I started doing the research after making the purchase.. Comparing it to other examples, it's somewhere in the middle. It doesn't look totally manufactured, but it also kind of looks to good to be true. Opinions?

This fossil is listed as a Baryonyx tooth with possible jaw underneath. What do members here make of it? Is it possible to tell whether it's a jaw or not alongside the tooth? Formation: Wealden formation, Hastings.
