Usually, I wouldn't ask about anything quartz from Big Brook, since I've never heard of any fossils there being agatized or any other type of quartz preservation, but I found two pieces on my most recent trip that have me really confused. The first has lots of wrinkles and folds with tiny open pocket structures that are growing druzy crystals all over in a pattern that looks like some agatized corals I've seen. The second has no openings or druzy, but has the same soft folding texture and looks almost exactly like a shriveled plum, with an incredibly soft, velvety texture on both the high AND low points of the surface. Are these just weird rocks, or could there be something more going on here?

First pic shows the modern day terrain of what 6-8 million years ago was the coastline of SE Iberia. Walking here today my Wife found what appears to be a gastropod or snail. But could easily be a nice rock.

Hi all, So - disclaimer. Feel free to giggle as you read. Was outside in the yard and finally decided to see how big this rock was that has been peeking out of the surface for decades. Little did I expect it quickly became a ball shaped rock almost a foot and a half in diameter likely weighing over 200 - 300 pounds as the sucker isn't budging. My question is: Is this identifiable as anything specific other than "general rock" such as a mineral or whatnot? To me a rock is a rock but I've seen people here ID some amazing things so figured I'd throw the rock in your court. Last pic is wet for coloring - has a reddish hue

Hello all. While working in Southwestern Kansas (Kiowa or Comanche County) I stumbled upon this little guy that has caused some confusion in my office. I have a few coworkers who are old geology majors and other coworkers (including myself) who are just plain old rock hounds, but we all cant seem to come to an agreement on this find. The rock hounds and I think its a weird piece of petrified wood, with some cool quartz features on the back side. The geo majors are intrigued over the "botryoidal quartz" formation on the back side, along with a very small cluster on the front, and are having a tough time wrapping their heads around that type of formation being on a chunk of petrified wood. One thinks he sees flow marks, but concedes that those marks could also be xylem and phloem... Any ideas out there on what this is? If I need better pictures let me know.

I found this on the Mississippi River bank in Natchez and it is about 1" 1/2 in diameter. There is something inside it and it looks like it might have legs. How do I polish it or what do I do. And now it looks like there are two things inside
