Found on the Kansas River. Here is what sure looks like a small horse lower leg bone and hoof. It has turned to mostly fossilized rock. I could be dreaming and it just be a plant fossil of some sort but it is hollow and the bottom of the "hoof" is indented just like a hoof pad area. All thought are welcome!

Hello all. I'm a newbie and artifact hunter. I pick up interesting "fossils" on my hunts and know nothing about their origin or identification. Here is what I think is a knuckle bone of some kind maybe from a sloth or other animal. It is mostly fossilized (I think). Found on the Kansas River. Appreciate any and all input. I'm going to post another interesting fossil that I think is a horse leg bone & hoof. Many thanks!

Found some interesting fossils with my wife and boys yesterday. 1. Guessing these are gastropod shells (all replaced with crystals) 2. I think these may be crinoid stalk fragments 3. Millions of sub millimeter round fossils (and brachiopod) Wife: I found a rock with the wavy sea fossil (bryozoan) and petrified wood. Me: that doesn't make sense, oh, it's concrete. I guess Kansas has so many fossils we use them as filler 4. Not sure what this is and didn't have a ruler handy

My son loves looking at rocks and fossils. He always finds the most interesting things. Does anyone know what this is? Kansas River, North Central Kansas, Flint Hills.

From the Kansas River levee in Lawrence, along a jogging trail. Should be Pennsylvanian period. Thank you in advance. I told her it's a dancing chicken fossil but she doesn't believe me. Sorry for not having a ruler.

I found this maxilla piece on the Kansas River today. I'm thinking it's some sort of pig ancestor, and hoping it's not just an old domestic pig's. But it seems mineralized to me. Also, the teeth are pretty worn so it's hard for me to ID them. I saw this topic And thought it's too difficult for me to ID based on the worn teeth. But maybe someone else here can help? Please let me know if more photos would be of use as well. Thanks in advance.

I found this large bone at the Kansas river today. I believe it's permineralized phalanx and it is about 4 inches long. If anyone can help me out I'd be very appreciative. If you need more photos let me know. Thanks in advance (Apologies for not using centimeters, I couldn't find my tape measure so I used a yard stick. )

Hi guys! I am looking for new areas to hunt for rocks and fossils around the KC area. I have been to the Blue river, Kansas river, Cedar creek, Tuttle creek, Perry Lake, Mill creek, and abandoned quarry areas. Anyone have any general locations of where I can find some stuff? I am an avid hunter for all sorts of fossils and rocks (rockhounding is my favorite past time)! I've had the most luck at the Kansas river and Perry lake. Some of my finds include cow skulls, cone coral, shells, agates, vertebrae, and a bunch of druzy quartz geodes and chalcedony. I have included pics of some of my finds - the petrified wood was sanded down and polished up to 3000 grit. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!!! Much love KC!

I was walking the dog on a sand bar on the Kansas River next to Bonner Springs,Ks. 12/16/2020 I found a roundish rock roughly 2" in diameter that has a lumpy texture. I picked it up and shook it and it makes a rattling sound as if the are seeds inside. Are there fossilized seed pods found along the Kansas river?

Found this bone on the Kansas River on a sand/mud bar near Manhattan, KS. Not sure what it is. Any ideas?
