Is this just a poorly prepared Keichousaurus or fake?
Muffinsaurus posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I bought this Keichousaurs recently from the auction site. The pictures were a bit blurry, but I couldn't bring myself to ask for better pictures because of anxieties, so I ordered it so I could take pictures myself. It arrived yesterday and to me it looks real and just very mutilated from the preparation. However, I don't trust my own assessment on such matters due to being very new to collecting. If it is fake I have until the 4th of October to return it. This is why I'm asking. So is this real? (I hope the pictures are good enough, I had to borrow my wife's camera and- 18 replies

I really wanted to try my hand at a keichousaurus hui again. I took a lot of inspiration from marine iguanas. I work in digital. I took the feedback that I got on my last one and really tried to apply it all here. I also had the opportunity after I posted that last one to go and examine 2 actual specimens in person. I even got a rather spotty replica on that trip (Not that there wasn’t an abundance of references to find online). As before any input is welcome. I’m still very new to adding meat to bones and I want to get better.

I've never seriously done paleoart before. I have been wanting to try my hand at it for years but passed on it for one reason or another. Recently I fell in love with looking at fossils of keichousaurus. I also love lizards. So I decided yesterday to just do it. So here are my results. If I messed up on the anatomy in any way, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I am unable to identify these pieces from my grandad's collection. He is now unable to clearly see and so sadly couldn't identify it. It must be something, he was a zoologist and the shale meant enough to have a crack repaired. Parts look like bones to me. I'd love to get these identified so I can prep them, making them clearer so he can see them clearer again.

Evaluating keichousaurs, real, restored, fake?
JohnBrewer posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Keichousaur questions crop up with regularity in this section of the forum. Perhaps those in the know could highlight the good, bad and ugly, pitfalls, legalities and what to look for when buying these gorgeous creatures. Maybe make a sticky thread if it warrants it? Just a thought.- 2 replies
