Hello ! And thank you for accepting me on this forum. Ive just bought my very first fossil, after some discussion with some collectors ive decided to post this fossil here. Because there are alot of fake ones of this species. If anyone could help me with this fossil i would be extremely gratefull as im learning every day ! So all the tips given are very helpfull to me . Ill post the pictures of the fossil below (PS, if it arrives or is proven fake i will get a refund, the owner also send me a video with solvent rubbing on the fossil to show its not paint) he also states there will be a chinese certificate with it. Keichousaurus with two vertebral columns?

This juvenile Keichousaurus should be a genuine one but I don't understand why it appears to have two separate vertebral columns. It doesn't seem like the vertebral column is split into two due to fossilization process. Any idea?

I recently saw the pictured Keichousaurus for sale from China. Considering the sheer amount of fakes I very skeptical however, they, for the most part, are in uncommon positions and show good removal of the matrix. Are these authentic or have the dealers in China upped their game on fakes.

Hi everyone! I've always had a love of paleontology and been fossil-hunting as a child (I've found mainly plant fossils, some incomplete trilobites, some unknown fragments of bone). The fossils I've found were usually incomplete and very weathered by the elements, but it was very rewarding knowing that I was holding a piece of real prehistoric history. I've always been fascinated by dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles, but never had the pleasure and luck of finding one "in the wild". So of course I took the natural route of going online! I'm very very inexperienced in terms of actually purchasing fossils, and I know that there is always the possibility of fakes, even with the most common/plentiful fossil. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I venture out into the unfamiliar world of fossil-purchasing. I'm interested in adding a Keich into my collection. I came across these 2 Keichousaurus listings, and I'm wondering if they are genuine or fake? And if they are real, if they are "good/decent" specimens in terms of prep, quality, and any other factors that I should be aware of?

Hello community, A friend of mine recently gifted me this keichousaurus. But as you can see the Preperation is not the cleanest/nicest. Can I as an amateur fix this by myself or make it look cleaner and nicer? I also had the Idea that I maybe could work from the other side with Acid layer by layer. Then I could also be able to see the upper side of the specimen rather than its belly. Or would that not work/ be to risky? Isbthe rock maybe to thin? Can i as an amateur who never worked on a fossil with acid before make that or is it generally not possible?

Hello communtity, So I recently got a keichousaurus as a gift, and due to the fact that therer are a lot of fake specimen out there i was a bit worried if this one is real or not? How can I tell the difference between a real and a fake one? It is also very heavy for its size. What do I have to look out for?

While it looks not quite as stunning as the critter in the thread below it's still much nicer than usual IMO and I like the dark/bright contrast of the slab. Any issues or red flags? Thanks! Hello everyone, I´m new to the forum and I would like to thank you for allowing me to enter. You see, I am fond of paleontology and to tell the truth something of a novice, I have a small collection of fossils that still continues to grow today, I´m very interested in Mesozoic fossils, but even more so in creatures that are not dinosaurs. One of the specimens that I dream of having in my collection to study and enjoy is Keichousaurus. As well we should all know (And I hope not to bother you, because I notice that the topic is quite frequent in the forum) Keichousaurus is one of the most falsified fossils, but I still have the hope of obtaining an authentic specimen. Today in the morning I was looking between pages and I found this specimen that has not yet been cleaned or prepared (supposedly) and the truth is that I have doubts as to whether or not it is an authentic piece. I hope that with your wisdom you can guide me, thank you very much for your attention

This Keichousaurus is interesting in that it got a lot of grainy deposits. Is it due to a decaying body of the Keichousaurus or they are fossilized deposits of organic matter over the body of the Keichousaurus?

Hello, The photo below is my personal collection of Keichousaurus. The bones of this piece seems very fragile to me. I am considering of applying paraloid b72 dissolve in acetone in hope of strengthening the bones. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed!

Hi. I'm looking to buy a Keichousaurus as a present for a collector. I've seen some other threads, but I'm no expert, and so I thought I'd ask here about the specimen I'm interested in. As a complete novice, this looks "too good to be true" to me, in particular for the price that it's offered. But other threads had similarly looking specimen that were considered genuine. I've owned a sweet Keich that came from China via Germany in the mid-20th century. In our last move, it was broken. The photos attached show the main break point with missing vertebrae. The next photo shows the cross-section, just for the sake of proving authenticity (you can see how the matrix striae curve around the bone as well as the details of the spine in cross-section). As I was lucky enough to find the missing vertebrae I placed the pieces together in the next photo and held the pieces in place in the final photo to show how it should look when finally repaired. My question: What adhesive should I use to repair the matrix and is there something different I should use to glue the delicate piece with the vertebrae into place? Many thanks to all for any experience/advice.

Concave convex Keichousaur

I know these are often suspect, but this being both concave and convrx seems hopeful. Bit of a botch on neck and head, since that is on the other side. On most I see for sale, the bones are usyally darker. Is that down to a poor prep or are tge darker ones often colored/highlighted. Thanks. Getting a Keich never appealed to me, but if price stays low...
