  1. Hello everyone! I'm considering this rooted Carcharodontosaurus tooth. It's from the Kem Kem Beds likely Ifezoune formation. I'm pretty certain the crown is real, but the root is suspicious. The seller does openly claim that the root is repaired which is probably why it demands a lower price. Honestly I like the gnarly look of the root, gives it character. But what I'm really concerned with is whether this is a composite. Is there any way to tell from these pictures? Would be cool if this is an all original tooth! Thanks for any help, tooth is just under 4 inches.

    Kem Kem skull element/thing

I recently purchased this item. It was described as a piece of dinosaur skull. I never trust these IDs of course, but on the other hand, I didn't know what it was. Crucially, it was affordable, so I bought it anyway. It has arrived today and is quite impressive, in its way. The question is; what is it? This is the main boney face of it. The other side is pure matrix with no shape or distinguishing features, so I didn't photograph it. Note the bone protruding from the bottom. This thing needs a LOT of prep. The bone has a strange honeycomb structure, full of large empty pits. This next bit (also seen at the bottom of the picture above) interests me, because it appears to be identical to the substance I asked for help with here: It is literally right up against the bone, on the left. MYSTERIOUS! If anybody has any ideas what this object might be, I'd love to hear them. So far I've narrowed it down to: Crocodile (that's what I associate any honeycomb style stuff with, rightly or wrongly) Dinosaur Elemental kaiju summoned to save the earth during time of strife Extremely big fish Thank you!
  3. Dimensions: 90mm long ; 60mm base to top of processes Location: Ifezouane Formation, Taouz, Kem Kem Basin, South Morocco After a lot of research I'm confident this is a cervical rib (something I didn't even know existed previously). I'd also take a guess that it's crocodilian rather than from a dinosaur. If it is crocodilian then my impression is that this would have been a pretty substantial croc. Based on some crude extrapolation from an image of a crocodilian skeleton I'm coming up with a figure of something like 5m from nose to tail. I understand that there were plenty of crocodilian species in the Cretaceous Kem Kem but hopefully maybe someone could confirm if at least my identification is correct, and maybe point me in the direction of a croc expert if there is one.

    Kem Kem bones

Hello all, I got these two bones a couple of years ago. The biggest (first) one is 24 cm in lenght, the other one is 13 cm. I think the first one is from a crocodile? They are both repaired but not composited. I want to use them in my essay for school so I would really like to know what they are.
  5. Here we go, I finally got two nice Sinosauridae indet. teeth (long more or less 8-9 cm). I love the fact that one is pointy and not broken, while the bigger one has the typical ridges along the tooth. What do you think?

  7. Just wanting to know if these are worm burrows in this coprolite I know there are some coprolite and poop experts in this forum so thanks for looking. Thanks Matt
  8. I recently purchased this Kem Kem bone, described as dinosaur. The price was reasonable, so I took a chance on it. Can anybody more knowledgeable let me know what they think? I've been looking at examples of crocodile and theropod limb bones, and it's left me scratching my head a bit, I'm still none the wiser. It does need some prep, which I would have done before posting it, but it's been basically soaked in glue, so it'll need some careful applications of acetone to enable me to clean it up properly. There are three clearly repaired breaks, one of which - the one on the flatter (left) end - appears not to be original. I don't think those two bits of bone ever went together, or if they did, there was more bone originally between them. The narrowing of the bone seems too sudden to me. Any thoughts appreciated

    Kem Kem toe

I may have purchased this bone whilst drunk, for reasons that I cannot fully explain. Is it possible to say anything about it, other than that it's a toe bone? Thank you.

    Abelisauroid Vertebra

A distal caudal vertebra of a theropod dinosaur. This vertebra is quite similar to Masiakasaurus from Madagaskar. So I've labeled this as cf. Abelisauroidea. There have been some reports that there are Noasaurids in the Kem Kem beds, so that might be a more specific possible identification. However at the moment just not enough is known about the Kem Kem fauna.

    What are these verts?

A while ago I acquired these verts but never knew what they were. I can also see the obvious peicing togeather on the right one, but I sill think it’s all the same bone- correct me if I’m wrong. They are from the Kem Kem Beds and about 2 inches long. I also have more pictures if needed. Thanks in advance!
  14. Wondering what people think of this kem kem claw. Thanks!
  15. Now I have seen many people state their fossils are from the kem kem beds and this normally follows taouz or begga ..but what exactly is this magically formation that gives us so many fossils? Well to start with the kem kem beds are composed in my opinion of two formation the earliest being the Aoufous and the earlier being the Ifezouane, and thats great but what are there how can I tell if my fossil dinosaur tooth comes from either one of these formations? That's a good question and while the Ifezouane formation to me remains a much of a mystery as I have only ever dug in this area twice here is a general description the fossils are usually lighter in color can range anything from light sand to heavy conglomerate depending on where you dig, the fossils from this formation are normally more water worn and the layer that produces the greatest abundance are usually fast moving river deposits. Now onto the formation I know too well at this point and how do I know it so well? that's a good question the area I dig is only comprised of the aoufous formation. How do I know this well you can keep digging downwards but you get nothing this area missed out on the earlier formation and for this reason I keep it a knowledgeable secret not for stop people from having fun but this area only the father and son mine (and they claim the land is theirs ...i'm not going to get into politics in this topic) but now comes a further question well there is just the aoufous you are digging in yeah? ....well nope there are four layers to this formation mostly comprised of clay and sand but always a mix of two these photographs might help show this the bottom aka the floor is a layer and the roof is also a layer.
  16. This morning I noticed a Spinosaur foot claw for sale and on the surface looked like a very good purchase. Closer examination revealed a couple of concerns. First the proximal end of the claw is all weathered away to the point that diagnostic features on the ventral surface are missing. Second the seller claims no resto but I'm very concerned about the tip. There is a change in texture and color in the area I have marked. Caution.

    Kem Kem IDs

I recently acquired two bits of bone which I would appreciate any thoughts on. Before I go further, my guesses are crocodile and fish. So, here's the first one, a piece of jaw with the remains of two visible sockets and a piece of tooth still within the jaw. The two dark areas at the top are the sockets. Got to be crocodile, I assume? I don't think I've seen one with such a broad, flat area surrounding the teeth though. Here's the side view, showing the sloping sockets and the broken tooth. The bottom This side appears to have been attached to something. As you look at this picture, the teeth would have emerged from the top, along the other side. This item is more puzzling. I think I may have seen something like it before. It has the look of something fishy to me. The underside. As always, any thoughts would be appreciated.
  18. My eyes are not so good when it comes to Kem Kem material. What do you guys think of this vertebrae? Is it indeed Spinosauridae? It looks to me like the process has been reworked, or repaired.
  19. I recently obtained some large, but pretty ugly chunks of bone from the Kem Kem formation. Given that they seem to have no identifiable features, I don't imagine they could be easily identified. However, one has these depressions visible on it, and I wondered whether anyone might know what they are? Close up of the depressions. This is the other side of the bone. They don't look like teeth marks to by uneducated eyes, nor the borings that you typically see on marine rocks (which these aren't, of course). I'm also not convinced they can be the series of depressions that you sometimes see on crocodile bone, although I'm quite willing to be told I'm wrong. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be interested to hear them.

    Kem Kem tooth ID

I am curious to see what you guys think of the ID of this tooth. The seller believes that it is not a Carcharodontosaurus tooth based on the cross section of the tooth and length of the tooth as well as the serrations. They suggest that instead it may be from a Deltadromeus or a as yet described Abelisaur from the formation. I have read the post below but as its a small tooth and no photo of the serrations on the other side against a scale I am not sure if its possible to ID as something so would be Theropod indet.

    Unidentified Kem Kem thing

Can anyone please assist with an ID on this? It's a large, flat-ish thing, broken into a number of chunks. Two of the bits go together, but the rest doesn't seem to, though I strongly suspect that they were found together (they were sent to me together in a box with a load of random bone fragments). It's large, and very crumbly. It's about ready to fall to bits, so I plan on stabilising it as soon as possible. The inner texture is very distinctive. I've been trying to think of things it could be. I have very similar chunks around here somewhere, but nothing this big. Sorry the pictures are so poor, but it's not very detailed to begin with.

    Kem Kem claw id?

Hi, wanted to ask about these two kem kem claws i saw for sale. Is it possible to id these based on the following pictures? This one is listed as an Abelisaur claw (3.5cm long).... The other one is a small claw at 1.4cm long....
  24. Hi Some time ago a postet a jaw from the Kem Kem in the "is it real" section. The jaw obviously had some repairs using the typical sand/glue material. However, it was not 100% clear to what level the jaw has been repaired/altered/faked. I am a scientist (but not a palentologist) and I did not want that uncertainty. Therefore, I decided to test our conclusions by removing the sand/glue mixture using an airscribe (Paleotools ME 9100). I thought I post the results here as potentially useful educational material. Maybe it helps you guys when buying material from Morocco. This is how the jaw looked like prior to the prep. When removing the sand with the airscribe, the difference between natural matrix (compressed sand) and artificial matrix (sand/glue mixture) is VERY obvious. The natural matrix comes off easily and seperates very well from the fossilized bone. The sand/glue mixture is much stronger and adheres to the bone. blue color: natural matrix (compressed sand) red color: artifical matrix (sand/glue mixture)

    Large Dinosaur Bones?

Just wondering if these two large bones are more likely to be dinosaur bones or something like crocodylomorphs bones. They are from the Kem Kem and the bigger one is 40cm long (15.75 inches), while the smaller bone is 34cm long (13.39 inches). Unfortunately these are the only pictures provided by the seller, so not sure if they can be id based on the pictures but thought it is worth asking about.
