I am trying to get my fossil collection photographed. I have more trilobites than anything else, so to light a fire under this ever delayed project, I'm going to post a new bug in my collection each week. To start off, here is a plate of Primaspis crosotus trilobites from the Kope Formation. These are itty bitty bugs, but show all the typical Ondotopleurid features -- pleural and pygidal spines all around, and fringes of short spines on the free cheeks.

Howdy all, This is something I've wondered for a while. What is the relationship between the Drakes and Kope formation and what are the differences?

Earlier this month I spent a day collecting in the Kope Formation (Upper Ordovician) of northern Kentucky. It is one of my favorite formations to hunt, and I always walk away with some nice stuff. Here are some of my better finds. A decent Ectenocrinus. It is crushed but should turn out nicely after prep. A much smaller Ectenocrinus hiding in a hash plate A pretty classic Kope hash plate. There's a cluster of crinoid arms to the left of center - I doubt there is a calyx but we'll see. A very nice Cyclonema This was a bucket list find for me: a nice example of a crinoid "log jam". There are two little Cincinnaticrinus calyxes mixed in. My best Cincinnaticrinus to date On the trilobite front, not much luck was had. I had been hoping to find some nice examples of Flexicalymene granulosa but found only some weathered partials. But my last Kope site did end up producing something much better: a partial Acidaspis cincinnatiensis! I've never found anything besides a free cheek of this rare bug, so this was certainly a trip maker.

I found this very fragmentary trilobite cephalon in the Upper Ordovician Kope Formation in Kentucky that I am unsure of. Not much to go on, but I was hoping someone here might recognize it. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I tried to post this last night, but my phone was not cooperating. Yesterday was a hot day and I spent about 9 hours outside collecting and going through a lot of water. I first stop and my first location on Monday located in Wilder, Kentucky. This site is very productive and I wanted to stop back and check out another portion of it. These are not the largest specimens of this broad flat smooth dark fragment, but you can see some fragments in this sample collected from 9 mile creek just east of Cincinnati. Yes, that is a gorgeous pygidium, presumably from Flexicalimenes?
