I found this coral in central Kentucky. Many are mostly free of any matrix. I am planing to put them in small glass display boxes to give as holiday gifts. Should I leave them as-is? Or can I brighten them up somehow, without taking away their character? They have all been found in an old rail road cut. The matrix around the other fossils appears to be mostly sandstone, with some in limestone. I took a few pictures of the loose coral and some still in matrix. All have been found within ~75 yard radius. I haven’t prepared them in anyway, other than sitting in the rain. My plan is to go over them with a toothbrush, then warm soapy water with a brushing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, thoughts or opinions.

Hello Gentlemen, I'm looking for a little help with an ID. I'm 48 and a Kentucky boy. This week I started browsing some creeks looking for arrowheads, it's something I have never done and just wanted to try. I ran into this rock with an organized pattern on it.....appears to be something that is fossil-ish to me. However I don't know much about fossils so you guys see what you think. Thanks for looking, -Aaron

Found in Kentucky along AA Highway, Ordovician, Kope formation. I took it because it looked like a weird eyeball thing. I didn't think it was a fossil, just a weird rock, until I cleaned it off and found a bunch of trilobite bits on it. So that had me wondering if it was a trace fossil or if there might be something inside if I chipped away at the shape. Honestly I'm kinda itching to see if there is anything inside it. As it sorta, to my untrained eye, looks like something fell into the water about an eon ago and got covered up. However I don't want to take the Dremel to it if it is more or less just a trace without chance of anything being locked away in there. So I'm just trying to get the thoughts on it from other people way more knowledgeable than me about the matter. Thanks in advance.

I am finding many of these at our farm in Versailles KY. I am finding them near a creek and about 1/2 mile from KY River. I am interested to see what ideas people may have for their identity. There are 2 pictured above. Thank you!
