Hello! My 10 yr old son found this cool fossil while stone hunting on the shores of Lake Huron, MI (the shore on the lower peninsula side near the bridge to the Upper Peninsula.) We are interested to find out any info and haven’t been able to find any online pictures that look similar. There appears to be another fossil on the opposite side as well. Any insight, including where we might do additional research, would be helpful. Thank you all! Matt and Noah

The Photos attached are of the second of 5 fossils I have been unable to identify in the last 2 years. This fossil has been found on the shores of Lake Huron, in the Grey Bruce county area in Ontario, Canada. I’d like to know what species you think this shell fossil belongs to. I know little about fossils but find them fascinating. Thanks for your help in advance.

The Photos attached are the last of the 5 fossils I have been unable to identify in the last 2 years. This fossil has also been found on the shores of Lake Huron, in the Grey Bruce county area in Ontario, Canada. I like this fossil a lot, as you can see the exposed bottom of the fossil, as well as the exposed side of the fossil, with the rest trapped in the rock. Any thoughts on what creature this could be? Perhaps a muscle or large barnacle?

This is number 4 of 5 fossils I have been unable to identify in the last 2 years. This fossil has been found on the shores of Lake Huron, in the Grey Bruce county area in Ontario, Canada. The pictures don’t show it terribly well, but the flat base of this fossil/rock appears to be a large coral like shape that looks like it was circular shape but has been slightly eroded to give this 2/3 of a circle coral type shape. The material is raised slightly on the grey parts within the white part, and the white part is more depressed in/less raised.

This is number 3 of the 5 fossils I have been unable to identify in the last 2 years. This fossil has been found on the shores of Lake Huron, in the Grey Bruce county area in Ontario, Canada. I am not entirely sure if this even is a fossil, but it’s a unique pattern of holes in this rock that make me think there was biological matter that rotted away leaving many small imprints. Curious to hear your thoughts.

I drive 8 hours with a friend to a location he remembers from his childhood as yielding a lot. Oh boy it did. 100% worth the drive. Lake Huron, among the agates, pyrite, yooperlite, has some extraordinary Devonian fossils. All fossils were collected from the beach of his family’s property except for the fenestelid bryozoan, which was found at a gas station on the way there. please enjoy this collection of gastropods, petoskey stones, various tabulate corals, crinoids, stromatoporoids, bivalves, Brachiopods, tenteculites, horn corals, an unidentified agatized fossil in jasper matrix, and a pudding stone I felt like showing off too. Thanks! I highly recommend the area.

All Devonian -ish. First is from port Huron, second is from the Milwaukee formation, third is from the Nike missile site in Waukesha WI

Found two of these fossils now. Both on beaches that are probably Devonian in age. One is from SW Wisconsin on Lake Michigan and the other is in the Lower peninsula of Michigan from the shores of Lake Huron. Organ pipe coral or some sort of burrow trace fossil? Thanks!

My daughter found this off of Lake Huron shoreline and did a lick test and it stuck.We tried looking online but couldn’t figure it out, does it look like a fossil and if so what kind? Thank you! We are newbies here. (Front and back pictures)

This was found in SW Ontario along the coast of Lake Huron. It looks trilobite-like, but I’m new to the area and am unaware of fossils in area. I would appreciate any assistance in identifying this. Thank you!

This was found in Southampton on the beach. Would like help in ID-ing it. I am thinking pumice stone, but maybe sponge coral? The back side shows impressions of shell fossils, and inside there is a lighter layer/section you can see, could this be more shell fossils inside ? I tried scratching it and it is soft. Could/should I try splitting it to see what is inside?

Found this fossil loose on a limestone shoreline on St. Joseph Island located at the north end of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada. I am a civil engineer and have some experience with rocks but I’m fairly new to fossils. Any help identifying would be great!

I have been collecting fossils for many years, but this fossil is without a doubt the strangest and most mysterious of the fossils I’ve ever found- I would really appreciate your help in helping solve this mystery of what it is and how old it is! It was found on the rocky shores of Lake Huron in Southampton, Ontario. I initially was interested in it because it looked like a boot and I thought it was a native carving, but realized it must be a fossil of something I’ve never seen before. It’s very interesting to me because it almost seems to be coiled like a spine of an animal, but could also be strange coral- I have no idea. Very curious to hear what you think. Hey folks: I have a cottage on the Sauble River not far from Lake Huron. I am an English teacher and Chaplain but I have always been interested in the science of the world around me. At the bottom of the river there are rock "shelves" that are fragmented and this sedimentary stone (?) broke away. I flipped it over and saw this shape. There were actually two but I am conscious of file size. My rookie guess is a crinoid stem but better to ask the experts. Thank you in advance! Jon.

Can you help identify this bone/fossil found on Lake Huron beach?

The other week I found a bone(left) on a Lake Huron beach (Ontario, Canada). The bone is roughly 2.5cm tall and 3cm wide, 1cm thick. To the right of the bone is a "rock" I found yesterday. I felt it looked too similar to the bone I had found. Here they are back to back. Does anyone know what kind of bone this is? And does anyone know if the specimen to the right is infact a fossil, or is it just a rock? Hopefully this is structured well enough. If you have more questions please ask! This is my first post here so thanks for having me. - Chris
