While looking at one of the shells in my collection that i had originally thought was a bivalve, from the stretch of beach between Lyme Regis and Charmouth, in Dorset (UK), another glance made me realize it is in fact a brachiopod: symmetry in plan view, asymmetrically sized valves in lateral view. So i dug out my British Mesozoic Fossils book and have identified it confidently as Cincta numismalis, which the book lists as occurring within the "Jamesoni Zone" of the Lower Lias at Radstock in Somerset. I am not familiar with the brachiopods of the Lower Lias at Lyme Regis in Dorset, but a

Hi, Can anyone please help with the latest and safest info for beach access directions at Port Mulgrave, and Runswick Bay. I’ve never been to either and all info I find on line seems a bit outdated, confusing and causes concerns. My wife is coming with just to show slight interest and keep company. We are both mid 60’s and mobile amateurs. I’m concerned about ladder and rope access references and any related safety / risk aspects of getting onto the beach in the right place at the right time. Are there options for access to either location. Any directions or pointers would

Hi, Just wanted to share my excitement at finally getting a chance to own a genuine lower lias ammonite from the infamous (now sadly closed/filled in) ironstone quarry in Scunthorpe (United Kingdom,Lincolnshire). The fossils found within this locality are mostly preserved in pure calcite and have a range of colours which include stunning/natural pinks and greens. It's due to arrive tomorrow! but I feel so privileged and lucky to grab one and also from a highly revered/professional prepper in the United Kingdom! : http://www.yorkshirecoastfossils.co.uk/scunthorpe_fossils.htm It's only a sm

Hi All, I have a new coprolite from the Black Ven area near Lyme Regis. It has what looks like undigested cephalopod beak inclusions. Can anyone out there confirm this for me? On the back side, it looks like a section through a belemnite cone, but I'm not seeing any hooks. There is also another inclusion that I can't quite figure out.
