  2. Bringing Fossils to Life

    Striacoceras attack reconstruction

Here is a reconstruction of the orthocerid Striacoceras typum, eating one of the last surviving Eldredgeops rana trilobites. Two Botryocrinus crinoids wave in the current, and a colony of Pleurodictyum feeds on planctonic organisms.
  3. After work had the chance to try out a new (to me) outcropping of the Mahantango. While the rock I split was mostly out of situ there was exposure along a cliff that I avoided just to be safe. This area seemed to be a different environment than Mahantango spots I have hunted in the past. There was more crinoids and even some horn corals. I managed to find a few trilobites, mostly Eldredgeops though I did find a partial Greenops. My highlights were the largest Mahantango Eldredgeops I have personally seen (though I am sure someone on here has a larger one!) as well as a completely free from matrix roller (I split him out of the rock and he just happened to pop out nicely) 6cm = 2.36in Perfectly enrolled and free from matrix Bummer this Greenops is missing its cephalon
  4. From the album: A.C.'s Devonian Pennsylvania

    6 centimeters = 2.36 inches | A personal record for me.

  7. Hey everyone! The other day me and a few other experienced collectors spent the day out in the Mahantango formation. After moving a literal ton of material we each came home with about 3 or 4 complete trilobites and plenty of other neat associated fauna. I found 2 different specimens that are incredibly interesting/rare a complete trilobite, Dechenella (I have to take the head off the counter part and glue it back onto the body after prep it will be fully complete.). This means I have a complete specimen of every species of trilobite in the Mahantango except the elusive and rare Neometacanthus and Monodechnella. The other specimen I found was a Phyllocarid valve. I have never seen Phyllocarid material in the Mahantango but It makes sense that they occur in the Mahantango. Let me know what you think.
