Genuine Smilodon Canine?
Huntonia posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I found this upper canine from a Smilodon for sale online. The number of surface imperfections lead me to believe the tooth is authentic though it could be a particularly well done cast. The seller has a couple other Smilodon fossils both of which seem legitimate. However the fossil is coming from China and I hear falsified fossils are very common in China. I would greatly appreciate another opinion thanks.- 25 replies

I collect rocks from the beach on Oregon . And I noticed this was in one of my many beach grabbings , rocks, and it appears to me that it is a fossilized monkey of some sort but it's squash down like it was liquefaction or something. I can litterally wistle loudly thru the nose and jaw and ear hole . All are connected and it rattles like monkey brains or bones inside has a entrance nose holes exit under the jaw and a big one right above it snows below its eyes . And obviously jaw line of teeth on both sides . And intended sockets for eyes on the side toward backof jaw has like a Like Frankenstein plug insertion . Similar to the rounding indication off the jaw of a monkey skeleton .. it looks like on monkey skulls , by mandular bone . that little roundlooking thing.

Are Oreodont and Leptauchenia the same genus /species?
Melissa_The Fossil Girl posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hi, I've seen several sellers who labeled their Oreodont fossils as Leptauchenia. So I wondered are they the same thing or two different animals altogether? Thanks.- 3 replies
