Hi everyone, Found this gryphaea a while ago and have been pondering about what could have left these marks on this fossil, anybody want to take a crack at what it could be? I had at first assumed that they were modern marks left by a tool of a fellow fossil collector but as can be seen in the first picture the shell 'bends' into the marks, which can only have happend while the shell was still growing. Thoughts? Some general info: - Location found: Vaches Noires - Age: ~150 million years old - Fotos:

I went fossil hunting out near the nearby creek today, since i had some free time. Here’s what i found: while i’m sure this first one is a concretion, i wanna know what yall think! Here’s the second one, which interested me way more- first one is 5cm, second one is 9 and a half centimeters: if you look closely- you can see weird markings on the second fossil that look almost like a tire track. Let me know what yall think that is.

Hey, this is another bone I’ve got that I’m wondering what the marks are I know they’re probably not bite marks but I can’t help asking and I couldn’t bare if I discarded a bone that had bite marks on it! It is a little over 4 inches long! TIA

Gettings, I was recently visiting the north coast of the Balearic Island of Menorca and what I found there was a moon like landscape formed apparently between the Cambrian and the Devonian period, the area of the island is called Favaritx in case someone feels interested and I saw this strange drawings at some rocks, which I suspect that may be ichnofossils or trace fossils from echinoids or molluscs... What do you think? Thank you very much.

I noticed that fossil dugong rib bones from Florida often have boring worm holes in them, though these are not predators per se, and have heard that shark marks can be found. Any other kinds of marks I should look out for? How common is it to find shark bite marks on the ribs?

I recently acquired this Irish Elk metacarpus from the North Sea. Upon closer inspection I noticed a series of scratch or cut marks on one end of bone. Anyone have any ideas? Marks from dredge? Butchery marks?

Hello Please could you tell me what these marks are on this rock I found on the Northumberland coast? Is this a type of mudstone? Please tell me everything you can about what these marks are, what made them, how, when, etc? Is this a rare or common find? On two of the close-ups you can see that there are longitudinal lines within the markings (if this helps the ID). Also, why are the markings a copper-brown colour? Could they be a result of prehistoric mud worms? Today I found another circle marked rock, but this time the mark is white with no discernible details. Is this the same as the above; if so, then why the colour difference? Sorry this is such a tiny image for basic reference only (due to the 2MB file limit on posts). Thank you very much.
