I found this little fern at the North Attleboro fossil site, and I cannot seem to put an ID on it. The leaves seem to be confluent, so i’m thinking maybe a juvenile Alethopteris or some other Pteridospermatophyte

Hi There - I was on a walk along the rocky beaches at Deer Island in Winthrop, Massachusetts earlier today. I came across this odd looking rock. Does anyone have any idea what I’m looking at? Is this indeed a rock, or could it be a fossilized chunk of something? Thanks for taking a look. Cheers!

Hi, my name is Jess, I am from a city in Massachusetts where we are lucky enough to have commercial fishermen go out and bring back some of the best seafood. I dated a fishermen for a bit and I could of cared less about money, I always wanted the sand dollars and sea glass and for such a horrible relationship I was at least able to make it out alive with what we thought to be possibly a saber tooth tigers? I appreciate any feedback. Thank you ! Jessie

I have this fossil here which at first glance I perceived to be some kind of seed, however I’m not sure. These are both from the same individual, just the positive and negative sides. It is just shy of half an inch long. It was found in the North Attleboro section of the Rhode Island formation

Hello folks. I’m in Cape Cod on vacation and although I know I won’t find any fossil shark teeth here I HAVE to collect something so I walking the beach picking up rocks and shells and hoping for shark teeth or some marine bone. I did find these teeth on the beach and hoping that someone (Harry ?) can identify them. Don’t have a ruler but 2-3 inches long. Thank you all

For the first time in the last 3 months I will not be spending time in Big Brook. Went up to Gloucester Mass. with my wife, daughter and Bo my Aussie and Gracie my Golden. My pre-trip research quickly told me the area is NOT fossilicious but I thought maybe I had a prayer of finding a modern shark tooth. Wife and kid had no interest in helping so I had to enlist the dogs with promises of extra treats. Well, they had a great time on the beach but we’re of no help whatsoever. Best I could come up with was four fish (cod?) verts, a tiny sand dollar and sea urchin. I did however find the world epicenter for fried clams in Ipswich and Essex so a successful trip in my book. In two weeks we (just me and the wife) will be up in equally non fossilicious Cape Cod where the modern shark tooth hunt will resume

I understand that fossil shark teeth are not going to be found how about modern shark teeth? or anything else interesting? (Other than the world's best fried clams) ps. 2 weeks later a weekend in Cape Cod which according to previous posts on TFF is also devoid of fossil shark teeth -
Hello, usually I do all of my fossil hunting around Cory’s lane and other parts of that Formation, but I was wondering if there are any fossil sites near or around North Western Rhode Island.

This fossil was found in north attleboro, part of the Rhode Island formation and the largest one is 6 inches in length.

Any idea what this plant fossil is? It was found in North Attleboro as part of the Rhode Island formation. It’s pennsylvanian in age and just shy of an inch and a half.

Hi everyone, I just joined up from southeastern MA. I have 0 experience in fossil hunting, but I do own a couple of fossils and have always been interested in them - I just never realized I could go out and look for them myself... After reading up on this forum I think I will try Cory's Lane in RI within the next couple of weeks and possibly the North Attleboro area near the pumping station and town compost pit (if anyone has any experience here, I'd like to ask a couple of general questions about the N. Attleboro site specifically - land ownership, parking, legality of the site given how close it is to an operating business).

A couple days ago I spent the day at the Gay Head Cliffs at Martha’s Vineyard. This beach is famous for its vibrantly colored clay cliffs. I did not fossil hunt in the cliffs themselves because as far as I’m concerned it’s a federal offense to even touch the cliffs, but I did find a couple of clams lying along the surf that had eroded out of the cliffs. They’re pretty neat because they’re the first Miocene fossils I’ve ever found. I was hoping to find shark teeth because I had heard they could be found there but at least I found some fossils.

I found this rock at my lake house in Chesterfield, MA. Not sure exactly what it is, but it definitely does not look like just a rock to me. Any help identifying it would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hello hello, I'm Sharon from Massachusetts and all of the ground beneath me for miles is metamorphic or igneous, so I have to travel to find fossils. I am a newbie - my collection takes up about seven shelves - but I have been collecting for 40 years. Being in one place for a short time, I am limited in what I can collect. I've been to England and found ammonites in Lyme Regis and Whitby. Visited my brother in Arkansas and found an Archimedes screw and some crinoids. Peace River phosphate tailings for sharks teeth. A week in Pennsylvania and I found brachiopods, and wading a stream in Red Bank, NJ gave up a nice belemnite and ostrea. Long for a trilobite and almost got hit by a train as I searched, but nope. So I must also buy fossils online from a dealer I trust. Only invertebrates. I am a retired educator and enjoy showing my fossils to young people. Am I too much of a dabbler to be in this forum? But I love to read your posts and look at your photos!
