Hi all, I'm still going through 20 flats of mostly unmarked Mazon Creek fossils, purchased from the estate of a prolific collector here in Central Illinois. I have many questions about identification. The following are a few of my still unidentified specimens, of which I realize their may be a number of worms, as well as some possible fauna. I would like to throw these pictures out there and see if anyone can positively identify them just based on the photographs. I'll start with number 1, and post three pictures of each. Thanks so much!

Once again, I am seeking assistance in identifying a Mazon Creek concretion fossil. Might be an easy one for someone here, but I'm just not finding it. Both halves are pictured below. Thanks!

I feel fairly certain that this Mazon fossil is of a Cyclopteris leaf, but I'm wondering if individual leaves of this size are common in finds? The leaf measures 2 x 2" and is lightly pyritized.

I'm at a loss here. This is perhaps the most unusual of the Mazon fossils that I have come across, and I don't recall seeing anything quite like it in the photographs posted here, but I could have missed something. This is from an old collection of Mazon pieces, and, for an unknown reason, is one of the few that has a lacquered or sealed surface. The concretion, as an intact nodule, measures 2-3/4" x 2-1/2", and the fossil inside is roughly 2-1/2" in length. Any ideas? ~Paul

I went to the Mazonia South Unit last week for my second ever fossil hunting trip in as many weeks. (I may be developing a problem). On my first trip I didn't find many nodules so I wanted to go back and try hunting in a different area. However I did find what I believe to be fossils in limestone and some pyrite (as identified in another submission-Thanks!). I will post the photo of the limestone sample in another submission as the pictures are too large. The fossil I am most curious about is pictured below. I credit my dog with finding this one as she led me to the place it was laying under an evergreen tree. The first photo shows the side with the fossil while the second photo shows the opposite side. It seems to have a stain on it that follows the same shape of the fossil. I don't know if that is a coincidence or relevant to the id. I'm assuming this is limestone solely based on its color, I could very well be wrong.

Hi all First off thank you all I know a lot of members get tired of my posts not trying to aggravate you in anyway You guys are some of the most intelligent people I have been a part of There was post in general discussion that has been on my mind about how Mazon is been drying up and just wanted to say disagree totally I always thought there is a lot to be found and wish could get to the middle of those piles we know what's on top let's see what's in middle mabey it is going to take another 80+ years for the erosion to find something mabey olny a few Charlie we will hook up and will take you to one of my favorite areas in fall (If you promise not to disclose) lol Anyway I do try to look and find on net images of what I post I am well aware of timelines and hope to find out of the normal fossils or rocks lol again thank you all. So to get that out of the way found this again close to pit 6 Area Not saying it is just going of Images Warsaizer test lol almost like Herbivore tooth what do you think? 2 3 4

Hi all Found this again in Mazon Creek Area Was fishing saw on bank edge sticking out was in three pieces clean up fit them together like the white to red colors in it what kind of stone? Not sure if sandstone some areas are starting to crystallize what do you think? 2 3

Ok All might be over thinking not saying this is but again has bone like appearance going a few steps ahead looks to be a tooth like projection in this that looks like it would match holes in it ,with out beating around the bush what's the odds on possible petrified bone with a broken tooth imbedded in it? In the area 1000000000 to one? But always say better to be lucky then good. It is in a Canadian University being Identified along with some others they found interesting will post what they have found. What do ya think? A B C
