  3. Here is another activity going on in the Denver area.... WIPS is the Western Interior Paleontology Society, a group of amateurs and professionals based in Denver. They do a Symposium every other year and this is the first one in a few years due to covid. Mammals is the theme... It is also available on Zoom... virtual attendance... Registration is 120 bucks for the two days, and only 25 for students and educators. There will be a half dozen speakers each day, art exhibits and fossil displays... (including one by my own outfit, the Tate Geological Museum). Here is the link... https://westernpaleo.org/wp/?page_id=928 Hope to see some of you there, esp those in the area of Colorado
  4. I thought I would let folks know about this meeting happening in Seattle in April. https://paleomethods.org/Annual-Meeting This is the annual meeting for fossil prep types from all walks of life. Anyone here who does prep work might want to look into it. At least one of us will be there teaching folks how to use carbowax in fossil prep.
  5. Hey everyone, The Paleontological Society of Austin holds meetings once a month and always on the third Tuesday. Those meetings have always been open to the public. Now that we are doing them virtually via Zoom I would like to invite the members of the Fossil Forum as well. The meeting starts at 7pm CDT and we usually have a lecture for the first hour (often interesting) and then a short club business meeting (boring for guests). I am actually going to be the speaker tomorrow. Although I am by no means an expert on fossil crustaceans, I am presenting a review of what species are currently described from the Glen Rose and Walnut Formations (Albian) of Central Texas. I'll review the current literature, described species and show examples of what I have managed to collect myself (or with the help of others) over the last 15 years. I'll also have images of a handful of "unknowns" that maybe some of you other Texas collectors have encountered. We'll follow the presentation with a Q&A session as best I can. Here is a link to our newsletters and the meeting info is included in the September Volume. https://austinpaleo.org/newsletter.html Hope to see some of you there tomorrow evening. Erich Rose President, Paleontological Society of Austin
  6. Last weekend I had the chance to go to deep spring rd for the first time. It was very ambitious but since @Scylla was going I figured I would just go for it! It was really snowy I’m really excited to be able to study this site further once the site thaws. I saw the literature said the rock exposed shows a clear coarsening up sequence and the fauna changes as well. I really can’t wait to catologue my finds from here! regardless of the weather I still found some goodies. I did find a greenops with the tail tucked underneath. Almost a full prone. I was a fan of the associated fauna here. The cephalopods and bivalves are really nice. I didn’t take home a lot but I liked what I took This greenops can pop up of the chunk of shale seen in the photo but I have it in place. The tail is tucked under attached to the counterpart. Kinda cool to see the potential for this site! This cephalopod was pretty cool. Im not 100% sure if this is a worm burrow or predation marks? Most likely worm burrow? I’m not sure how predation marks would preserve this seems like an internal mold so I’m leaning to the burrow thought. Anyone know for sure? I liked this bivalve a lot! I forgot the name but I will soon have it locked down. I think I’ll be finding many of these this year! It was fun meeting up with gus a fellow forum member. The conditions were kinda hardcore but I can’t complain I still had a blast.
