So I just found/bought this beautifully white, little megalodon tooth that I want to turn into a necklace for my son. Just a little leary about toxicity as it was found in the phosphate mines in Florida. Here's the quote from the site: "The Bone Valley Region of Central Florida is world renown for their beautifully colored Megalodon tooth. These highly collectable teeth are getting hard to come by as access to nearly all the mines and phosphate pits where they are found has been shut off." I plan to wire-wrap it & hang it on a chain or black, leather cord. I know phosphates are used in detergents & also in a lot of our food as a preservative (especially cured meats) & considered toxic by most people in the health professions. Could the phosphates that make the tooth so pretty leach out & cause problems for my son? I don't know if the wire wrapping could dig into the tooth & cause dust particles that could get breathed in. Am I being paranoid? If you think it can be toxic we'll just keep it on a stand or something. Here's what it looks like.

Pity we were unable to find any more pieces to this monster! This is Toby showing an approximate shape of the original tooth if it were still together.-

This is one cool tooth. It is a 4.6 inch South Carolina Megalodon tooth covered with pyrite. Really an interesting fossilized tooth! -
Hello everyone, I am on vacation in the North Carolina beaches and i was strolling the beach at about 330 pm at low tide and i found this huge meg tooth about 5 inches long and it was nearly perfect, i was so elated i literally almost cried when i saw it laying there in about 6 inches of water.. anyways my question is if this is a rare thing to find on the shore, or is it a common occurrence? I appreciate any feedback! (btw, no i did not purchase this tooth!!! i do not[attachment purchase teeth, i would not be wasting my time on this post right now!!) hopefully the pic shows up. if it does not please let me know!!

4.98 inch New Caledonia / Deep South Pacific Megalodon tooth

This is a pretty rare condition for a New Caledonia tooth period, much less one that is just shy of 5 inches. This tooth has intact enamel and even very faint serrations. Anyone who is familiar with this location knows that most Megs from here are very worn down and usually only marketable as polished teeth. This is a rare exception. This 4.98 inch Megalodon tooth is from the South Pacific Ocean about 800 miles east of Australia near the small island of New Caledonia. Teeth from this location were found on the ocean floor at dredged depths of about 1000 feet. The permits that allowed dredging of this area expired in the early 2000's, so no new teeth from this site there after. Truly a remarkable fossil treasure from deep depths of the ocean floor.- 2 comments

Here is the latest rendition of my "creature corner". I decided to go Riker with some of the larger Megs. They have earned their own space! -

This is one of my favorites! It's a 6.2 inch Chilean meg. No repair or restoration. Great enamel, bourlette, root, and serrations. Small bit of feeding dmage to the tip...probably broke it off while attacking a whale. One of the crown jewels of my collection.© ©
