Hello, My name is Nicholas, I have been a fan of all things Biology and recently started gaining interest in rocks, specially petrified wood and other things not rock'ish like amber. I reside in Guatemala, land of many interesting geological features and places to find interesting things. Hoping to learn a few new things and start diving deeper into rocks and fossils.

Hi all! New here and getting back up to speed with the world of palaeontology! Have been Dino-mad since I can remember but haven’t really kept up with the science for a while due to University and engineering career! Last time I was ‘up-to-date’ Torosaurus and Triceratops were the same animal! It’s also only been recently since I realised real dinosaur fossils aren’t just in museums but can actually be bought and owned by anyone… seems obvious in hindsight! I’ve started my collection with two fossils that have been kindly verified here at TFF and will be keeping a keen eye out for more! Based in the UK and finding reliable sources of material seems tricky, but I’m getting there!
  3. This past weekend I attended the Florida Paleontological Society's spring field trip to a shell pit in Charlotte County, Florida. These trips along with others I take, give me the opportunity to catch up with friends, many who are Fossil Forum members. This got me thinking about a topic for pictures of FF members in the field. From this past week @Shellseeker collecting 1.8 million year old fossil shells from the Caloosahatchee Formation in South Florida.
  4. Hi everyone, I am not new to this forum, though recently arrived in New Mexico for a new job (in Los Alamos, near Santa Fe) after a few years away from the US (and my last activity here!) I look forward to meeting some of you who might be around. Seems like there are tons of things to do here! Cheers, Alexandre
  5. Hi! While I've also been fossil collecting, I am also volunteering for a local theatre company right now. This month, we will hopefully be leading a free acting program for youth in our community. Among my roles is writer/co-writer for the script that the youth will be performing. Ideas for what the script will be about have been scarce, but I do have one idea. I am thinking of making a vignette play (essentially an anthology of related scenes) about the lives of fossil hunters and palaeontologists. The scenes would be transcribed from various historical accounts and stories published in literature, but I would like to have some modern day scenes as well! If you are comfortable with it, I would really love to hear some of your craziest or most interesting stories from your lives of fossil hunting and collecting! Maybe it was a thrilling brush with danger while in the field, maybe it was an interaction between you and a cooky character, maybe it was a moment that cemented your love for fossils early in your life. I'll take anything! Regale me with your tales in the replies section or by sending them directly to me! Details, names, etc. may be changed or omitted, but I'd like to keep them as accurate as possible. Please also indicate if you would potentially be alright if your story made it into the production somehow. Thank you!

    Hello from Maryland!

I am a new member who has been searching my creek and discovering lots of new fossils recently. It has been very exciting to learn about each new item I have discovered. I'm hoping to get more information about fossils from a forum like this. I wanted to share some of my recent finds. The shark teeth I started finding in April 2020. We have lived here almost a year. These are finds from today, May 1st 2020, and the large scallops from a couple of days ago. My megaladon tooth images I may have accidentally deleted, I'm trying to fix that post now.

    Hello Fossil Members

Hello, Hope this is where I introduce myself. I love the outdoors, am a long time rock hunter but had to change over when came to Florida in 1989. Age and health have me slowed way down!! Trying to find places to hunt that are easy for over 60 and slow moving. I went and sat in the pile of rocks today at the Mulberry Phosphate Musium to find small shark teeth for a Pastor friends class. Love the water, Love to fish. Looking forward to learning from this site! Posted some of my collection on the page as header. Have a ministry, www.ReachTheMasses.org
  8. I’ve been busy with work the last few days and have been catching up on the news this morning. Just realized that California got hit with 2 big earthquakes in as many days, and it may not be over yet! I know we have some forum members that live out that way. Everyone ok?
  9. Hello everyone! I'm sorry for the late reply in posting this, but I was busy on the weekend with a course I'm taking, so it took me a few days to get my act together. On Friday, October 12th, 2018, a bunch of TFF members met up at Penn Dixie Fossil Park in Hamburg, New York in order to do some group fossil-hunting for mid-Devonian trilobites and other critters. The members in the pictures that follow are Malcolm @Malcolmt (he's wearing the beige bucket hat), Greg @Greg.Wood (he's in the striped shirt), Ken @digit (he's in the red jacket), Ken's wife Tammy (she's in the blue jacket), my daughter Viola (she's the only child in the group, so she's easy to spot!), Kane @Kane (he's in the black shirt), Kane's partner Deb (she's in the black jacket), and Mike @ischua (he's in the blue touque and green jacket). Diane @Mediospirifer and her husband were there, but I didn't get any pictures with them - so sorry! - perhaps Ken got a few photos... I encourage the others members of the group to add pictures to this thread if they have any, especially pictures of the finds - thanks! Monica The group hard at work: Malcolm using one of his toys to clear off some dust and debris: Greg doing some heavy lifting: Malcolm splitting some rock: continued...

Has anyone established whatever happened to a couple of our members, Chris (CBOB) and Jim (OldTimer)? I have written notes months ago, but they show that they have never been read.
  11. I see right now that we have 25 thousand The Fossil Forum members. Wow, Holy Hydnoceras! No wonder it is so busy around here. Thanks for all the interesting discussions. John
  12. I know i for one enjoy to know who i am talking with and like to visualize a face. Let's see some mug shots! Im told i look "unapproachable" and "intimidating", so let's put that to rest now. So if you see.me with my head down rockhounding, come up and say hi! Im a big biker looking guy, but i don't bite. I work in the motorcycle industry, so i have to keep up my badass look, but little do most know how truly nerdy i am! Lol! My son and I
  13. Hey Hi Y'all, I just noticed that The Fossil Forum has 22,000 members! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
  14. I've been a member of cloudynights forum for 8 years. It's the most popular astronomy web-forum in the world. Just recently I changed my avatar over there to an Archeopteryx fossil pic. Then I came here and changed my avatar to a picture I took of the Orion Nebula. Ha!!! What is your avatar? What's it's significance? Scott Original image:
  15. What is the most effective way to locate members in my area to plan fossil collecting tirips? Dan
