Hi,I’m trying to find out what these stones are?I am from South Africa and visiting a friend in the UK.They have this type of stone in their garden which is mixed with shale in their walkway,they have a slight burgundy tinge to them.The big heavy rocks are used in their garden as a small rockery but they incredibly heavy and dense,and feel & look like heavy metal?

Going through Permian matrix. We have found many teeth and other identifiable microfossils. I have also found many of these metallic looking dark rocks. Are they bone fragments, or partially melted rocks? Thank you.

Would any metal fossils remain after 65 million years?

Would any metal, specifically colbalt chrome fossilize? I'm asking because I have a book where a time portal opens to 65 million years ago, a character stabs another and the blade breaks off in the dead man's chest, and he gets buried under a mudflow. They find his fossilized remains in the present day, but would the broken blade still be stuck in his bones? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :) -
Hi. We found this huge smooth greenish piece of what sounds like metal. It has what looks like small chunks of quartz on the sides. I tried banging it with granite, quartz, other rock types and it has a solid, yet tang sound to it. I scraped it with stainless steel and nothing. Could it be just a raw piece of metal, or a meteorite? Its been sitting there for decades. Im bringing a magnet, drills, metal detector amd other things this weekend to try and help figure out what this is. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! 1620692906819.3gp

Has anyone seen this before and if so how was it formed? Appears to be sandstone, full of striped layers of metal, in ribbons and bubbles - some bubble features are as large as 9 feet. Never seen anything like it. It was found in the honey creek area of big south fork in Tennessee, outside the town of Onidea. See photos.

I found this rock the other day and kept it because it was strange. There are some weird layers black and brown. The black looks metallic but it’s not magnetic and I thought hematite maybe, there are also a lot of small lines perpendicular to the layers, any clue how it formed and what it is? There is also a small sliver that looks like a piece of petrified wood I have. Oh and it’s about 3 cm long

I found this very hard piece of rock,unlike the rest of the matrix,I dont know what it is.Its dark in color and is completely unbreakable with the needle(as contrast to the oreodont jaw,which i made a few scratches while prepping unfortunately)

These stones are related to that stone I posted as "Frankenstone". Most of the stone found in and around the area where that stone was found have a unusual amount of metal in them, most are magnetic and some appear to have been altered/modified. I just thought I'd post a few photos and maybe see what others think these stones might be about. Please bare with me, this will take more than one post to show enough for others to make a decision so I will show a bit more.

I found a few tiny fossils in Austin TX Creek. I don't have background in paleontology or geology. I also found a quite a few metal chunks that are non-ferrous (I know this place is not ideal for that, but I thought someone may know).

Hi all, I’m new in here and would really like some help to identify the piece in the photos. I recently bought it at a Chinese antique shop in Malaysia. It was on a box together with different pieces of ingot money, although the store clerk didn’t know what it is. It’s very dense, weighting 144 gr (5.1 oz) and measures about 35 mm (1.4 inch) across. it’s basically a polyhedron with triangular faces on the top and bottom and five square faces on the center. Some of the faces are flat and covered with small granules, others are concave and smooth. Its ferromagnetic, and after a couple of hours in white vinagre it lost the dark patina and it’s looking more like white metal. I have no clue of what it is, if it’s a natural formation or an artifact. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year!! juan

I apologise if this is a simple find but I asked at the Charmouth Coastal centre and they were not sure of this find. I found it on a fossil hunting walk but I'm not sure what it is. it looks like molten metal. It is very light in weight and has some golden colour to it. It is mainly light grey in colour and dull in appearance. It was found on Charmouth Beach near to the cliffs, towards Lyme Regis. Is it a fossil?Thank you.

I found this black rock. I’ve compared it to other rocks and it’s either double or triple the weight of this one. This weighs 42.2 grams, was thinking it could possibly be a meteorite. I’ve put a magnet up to it and there is no magnetic attraction so i have no idea what it could be.

I wanted to share some of my projects with all of you. A hobby and side business of mine is creating dinosaur sculptures. I do all different kinds of things aside from dinos too, but to keep it relevant, we’ll stick to the mesozoic Featured in my profile picture is my raptor created from scrap metal used to construct railings. I named him Bambi (ironically not a Bambiraptor). Probably more like Deinonychus, he’s a pretty big chicken, but you let me know what you think. As of now he’s my favorite creation, hence why he’s featured in my profile pic. Still trying to figure out the paint job. I wish he’d stop scaring all the birds and deer away...

Hi everyone! I found a interesting rock with metallic luster here at home in Texas. I think it might be a mineral rock but I have know clue as to what type of mineral, Thankfully we have sites like this one for rookies like me that don’t have a clue about rocks and fossils. I have posted pics of the rock and would love to know what everyone else thinks about what mineral type it could be, thanks y’all!

I got this as part of an estate. You might notice I've posted a few things from there. Anywhere, I have no idea what this is? Maybe a geologist could hazard a guess. It definitely is a metal of some sort. It has a diameter of 3 inches (7.6 cm). It's thickness is around ⅛" at its thickest point in the center. The edge is sharp enough that this could be used as a weapon in a pinch. I wish I could send you a sidewise photo, too. Notice the shell on the one side. I have another disk like this without the shell. Is this a modern-day man-made creation or was it made by natural forces. Yes, nature sometimes does make fantastic, regular patterns. Could this be one of them? I have no idea on where this came from or how it got to myself prior to the estate. Thank you for your help.

It weighs 6 grams and does not stick to a magnet & feels heavy for how small it is. Found in raubsville PA

I have found a large amount of rocks that are strongly attracted to my neodymium magnets. Could this be from iron ore in the rock or does it mean it is a meteor?
