    Possible meteorite!?

anyone have any idea about this one... not magnetic at all.

    Not from around here!

Not sure where this came from but it has a lot going on! Seems to be a lot of Quartz crystals with some metals mixed in. Some other crystals as well. This went in my tumbler as most of my finds do. I didn’t recall putting one that looked like this so I started researching and found some pics that resembled it. They were moon rock. Now I’m not going to get too excited until someone with a little more experience in knowledge than I do has a look at it, hence the reason I’m here! So chime on in , I’m curious now. Thanks in advance!

    Rock hounding

Weighs a lot, I found this in a creek near my home in Illinois where I live. This past summer. Its not magnetic. I am going to try and saw a piece of it off to get a better idea of its structure and content. But I thought it would be best to ask professional fossil forum experts first ty for your time

  8. Good afternoon, I'm a noob here but over the past 3-4 years I have wandering our swamp and have found a few interesting specimen. One of which I believe to be a larger animal head as well as two interesting, well preserved pieces of coral, as well as (weight and measurements indicate) a meteorite. These are all from the swamp so determining age/layer is difficult. We are in a valley I believe it to be an old lake or river bed. Please see the attached images and share thoughts.

    Opinions?

Hello everyone! This will be my first, of several posts requesting identification help with various items from a single spot I stumbled upon. To keep it brief, I live on the far west/nw edge of San Antonio Texas. I’ve lived in this house nearly my whole life—almost 32 years, and inherited it in 2020. Last summer I decided to begin working on a small natural pool and disappearing waterfall for my 2 dogs. I picked a spot in the backyard and to my surprise I didn’t end up hitting any rocks until nearly 3 ft deep (a first for me— I’ve dug in many places around my lot and this area and have always hit virtually solid limestone before even 1 foot deep). About that same time I found several chunks of metal— maybe iron- ore nuggets, possibly meteorite bits or just deposits, im not sure, but finding these made me slow down digging and paying closer attention. As I was clearing rocks out I noticed that they just looked strange and we’re arranged oddly enough that I stopped digging with the pick axe altogether and started carefully clearing the dirt and widening the hole so I could figure out what I was seeing. I collected different pieces and cleaned them up with vinegar—some I cleaned up further and set aside. This particular piece cleaned up pretty well but I’m stumped about what it is, if anything at all besides a very solid, strange and pointed rock. I’ll confess that since last summer I’ve managed to expose a pretty wide area of this rock bed and I have a theory…a fairly strong suspicion that it’s the very weathered, maybe very old, badly broken fossilized remains of a large turtle or tortoise…based on the intact pieces I’ve collected and cleaned. I’ll include early and current pics of the bed and will post several of the key pieces for identification help a little later. For now, I’m just asking for help with this one piece— any and all input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and have a beautiful day!

    Anglesey fossil ID

Hi New member here , John from Wirral Hope you can help with ID of following , images attached. During a recent visit to Anglesey , N Wales I happened upon this small rock . Unremarkable at first until on picking it up I noticed it was pretty heavy [ 338gms] There also apppear to me multiple micro fossils on the upper and lower surface together with traces of iron. Size is 90x50x35. On close examination it has something of a sparkle. I am familiar with most types of fossil , but this one has me stumped. It has an almost meteorite like appearance. Any ideas please Many thanks John

    Meteorite?

Hello! I found this rock in the desert in Saudi Arabia, it felt heavy and I measured its density to be 2.9 g/cm3. I also cut it on the edge and appeared to be iron or some metal but it doesn’t stick to a magnet. what is it?

    Meteorite???

Hi any Ideas if this may be a meterite. Sticks to magnets. Metal is very hard seems to be harder than steel. When I do a streak test on the metal it's not what I expected it to look like instead of being a shiny metalic steak it is a very dark Grey Streak. When I put 22K gold testing acid or platinum testing acid on the streak the acid turns bright Yellow. The lower carat acids don't seem to have any type of reaction. I grinded of the end of the stone then used 1200 grit sand paper on my dremal to smooth the metal. So meterite? OR Meterwrong?
  16. Id on these please. Not a mineral guy. Some metallic iron ore like rocks found while exploring for artifacts in Texas. all are non magnetic and heavy and found near or in archaic Indian sites and one is polished by man with cut marks visible probably due to pigment extraction possibly one of my favorite finds. Could of been used as a club at one time also. Who knows. Other 2 or natural and raw possibly. Rock descriptions 1. First 6 pics are the artifact. Non magnetic and brown streak on ceramic 2. 7 through 10 pics heavy and does brown streak on ceramic 3. last are puzzling to me. Not as heavy but still heavy and metallic like and no streak on ceramic non magnetic any insight into these would be very helpful thanks callahan

    Super Heavy Rock

Hey all, my girlfriend’s family found this in a field quite some time ago and I have no idea what it is. Wondering what kind of rock it might be, it’s ridiculously heavy for it’s size, I’m guessing inbetween 15-25 lbs. Has some weird shape and textures as well. They figure it might be a meteorite. Didn’t have anything on me for size comparison but it’s probably 6 inches long by 4 inches wide if i remember correctly.

    Meteorites and tektites

There was recently a thread about tektites which has motivated me to makes this thread..... they're not fossils but they do have a place in my cabinet and they are very interesting! It's not every day you can hold something 4.5 billion years old I won't go in to detail about the types of meteorites and the classes within the individual types - it gets confusing and I only know enough to get by. There are 3 main types - stony, stony/iron and iron. Tektites are ejected terrestrial material from an asteroid or comet impact, thought to be once sedimentary rock that has turned in to a natural glass due to heat and pressure. On the pic showing many items... Top left 296 grams / 10.4 oz iron meteorite - Campo del Cielo Top right 13 grams / 0.46 oz iron meteorite slice, acid etched to show the Widmanstatten pattern (please look this up if you have a spare minute - the reason for this pattern is amazing). Middle right - North West Africa (NWA) L Chondrite 13 grams / 0.46 oz. This is a stony meteorite, "L" meaning Low iron content. In one pic you will see small areas of black on this meteorite, this is fusion crust. Fusion crust is the melted exterior of a meteorite that was in direct contact with the atmosphere. Bottom - tektites. The 2 on the right are translucent, I have one of them sitting on my ring light (and black cloth covering as much direct light as possible so it doesn't white out the camera - messy pic but the result is good!)

  22. I told myself years ago I wouldn't ever be the guy who finds a rocks and thinks it's a Meteorite but hey, life has its disappointments and here I am! I found this in Burlington County, New Jersey. It is very magnetic and also passes the streak test so I have to ask - any chance this is a Meteorite??

What kind of metal is this?

Hi. We found this huge smooth greenish piece of what sounds like metal. It has what looks like small chunks of quartz on the sides. I tried banging it with granite, quartz, other rock types and it has a solid, yet tang sound to it. I scraped it with stainless steel and nothing. Could it be just a raw piece of metal, or a meteorite? Its been sitting there for decades. Im bringing a magnet, drills, metal detector amd other things this weekend to try and help figure out what this is. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! 1620692906819.3gp
