Two micro items likely from the Oligocene Chandler Bridge Formation of South Carolina. Item 1: ~1.2mm long, ribbed on one surface. A grinding plate? Item 2: 3.8mm long, seems to be capped with irregularly-spaced hollow cylindrical teeth. a chunk from the middle of a fish pharyngeal plate? amphibian? tagging @digit Thanks, all!

Found this in likely Oligocene sediments. V-shaped in cross-section, about 7 "teeth" per side, tapered to one end, 2mm long. A jaw? A tiny claw? A piece of fishy bone?

Hello — I would love your help IDing these shark teeth: #1 — I think it symphyseal, perhaps P contortus. 10mm in length. From the Peace River of FL. #2 — Rather unsure about this one. Seems somewhat like a lemon shark tooth, but if I had to guess I would go with I retroflexus. 12mm long. From the Peace River of FL. #3 — New to me. Just under 3mm in length. From a creek in Summerville, SC. If I had to guess I would say a member of the Triakidae (hound sharks). As I understand it, this would be fairly unusual for SC, but this clade is attested for this locality in the literature https://bioone.org/journals/acta-palaeontologica-polonica/volume-53/issue-3/app.2008.0306/New-Fossil-Triakid-Sharks-from-the-Early-Eocene-of-Prémontré/10.4202/app.2008.0306.full. No idea about species or genus! Cheers!

Hello there! Last year, Ken @digit generously gifted me with a bag of "Cookiecutter Creek" micromatrix and I finally found the time to search through it once! The items are really small, but I did manage to find some stuff, and I'm looking for some help with identifications. I don't think I found any cookiecutter teeth, but I did find some other interesting items - please let me know what you think - thanks! Monica I found quite a few "regular" tiny shark teeth, but here are two larger and more interesting ones: Item #1: no idea Item #2: Great white? More to come...

Hello, I am having some trouble IDing this tiny tooth found in some micromatrix from Sharktooth Hill. I believe I've narrowed it down to a smoothhound (Triakidae mustelus) or guitarfish (Rhinobatos) but of course others are probably possible as well. Thank you very much!

2019 has been a rather slow year for me in terms of fossilhunts. I have not been on as many as previous years. This is due to family obligations and projects. So I have had to utilize other means to satisfy my urge of finding fossil treasure. Fortunately I had a wonderful time hunting with @digit and his wife Tammy back in March. We hunted in Cookie Cutter Creek and I was sent home with a few gallons of Micromatrix. Also I won an Auction put up by @Adam86cucv. His offering included matrix from 4 different sites. While this has not been my first foray dealing with micros, I had more fun and success, due in part, to having more experience and fine tuning the searching process. I named this topic 'Kitchen Table Finds", because this is where I do my searching. Actually I do alot of fossil related activities there. It has a big surface, decent lighting, and the family can sit around to watch and participate if they choose. My wife used to get mad that I was bringing dirty rocks where we eat, but I make sure to lay a barrier down of some sort and clean up after myself so she has since, gotten used to it. I have rather enjoyed the micro hunts that I have had. My only complaint is that after a while my eyes start to hurt! But I have had the opportunity to add some new sharkteeth to my collection that I would not have otherwise. I used to think that micros were a waste of time as they are so small they are hardly impressive. I now realize that considering sharkteeth are my main interest, I should be trying to collect as many species as possible, regardless of size. I will start off pics of my finds from Cookie Cutter Creek. Adding pics will take awhile so please bear with me.

I just got some micro-matrix from the aguja formation. I starting going through it today but I am totally new to this kind of matrix. I have found a couple of things so far and some things I would like help identifying. I am not home right now so I can’t get any better photos for a little bit. I will definitely get a ruler in the next pictures.

My first Acquired Micro Matrix Hunt- Aguja FM, Cretaceous, Texas
Miocene_Mason posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
I got myself a bag of Aguja formation matrix a while back. I have been looking at it and wanting so badly to go through it, but I lack the proper sieves. Anyway, I got too curious a few days ago and used some metal mesh from a reusable coffee filter to filter about a cup of matrix down. To be honest, none of my equipment is up to par, but I’ve started a look through and it’s already fun! Will be continuing this thread till I get done with the bag, which may take a while. Updates will be periodic and this thread is mainly so I can store my information and share it but feel free to comment, help ID, give tips, follow along, or whatever you would like to do! Here it goes: Fishy Vertebra, very similar to my Miocene ones!- 74 replies

Hello once again! Well, March Break has finally begun, so my daughter Viola and I decided to spend some time sorting through the Sharktooth Hill micromatrix that Ken (@digit) sent me as part of the "rolling auction" lot that I won last month. Here are some pictures of a few of the finds so far... Ray teeth? - different from the usual plates that I've seen before Cow shark (Notorynchus sp.)? Dogshark (Squalus sp.)? Marine mammal teeth? Any ideas? Cute little shark teeth in matrix - any ideas re: their identity? ??? ??? I'll post pictures of more items on another day, when my eyes have stopped burning Thanks in advance for your help! Monica
