So I found these bones in a block of Bois Blanc fm., which dates this to around the middle Devonian. When it was found the block was in several pieces which at the time I didn't realize was associated, but upon further inspection I found the pieces fit together. Interestingly the fossils are not layered and appear at random depths throughout the block, not just in one layer. Because of this I think there may be more to be discovered in the rock. I tried prepping a smaller bone fragment out, but it turns out the bone is much softer than the matrix and the bone fragment is now many fragments. I won't "prep" any more of this to avoid further damage but I was wondering if there was anything diagnostic in here?

  13. Yesterday I was able to get out to Onondaga County in central NY. While I was there I got a chance to do some fossil hunting at two locations. The first was in Pompey Center, NY near Pratt’s Falls. The second location was a creek in Delphi Falls. The rock at both of these locations was the Skaneateles formation. I was able to get into a different formation at the second spot that was more shaly and had better preservation. This was my first time fossil hunting in the middle Devonian and I was amazed with the number of bivalves I found. (I’ve never found one in the lower Devonian near me). As well as bivalves I was able to find a few very well preserved gastropods, some brachiopods, a bunch of ostracods, and what I believe is a partial phyllocarid carapace.
  14. Nautiloid

    Monodechenella sp.

From the album: Nautiloid’s Trilobite Collection

This is a super rare Monodechenella trilobite from the Deep Springs Road site in Central New York. This specimen is the only one I have seen or heard of from DSR. I’m not sure whether this is M. macrocephala or an undescribed species. Collected August 19, 2022

  15. Nautiloid

    Madison County meetup

Hello all! Today I met up with my good friends @Dean Ruocco and @KompsFossilsNMinerals to collect a couple of Hamilton Group sites in Central NY. The first site we went to was the famous Deep Springs Road site, and then we hit a second location for a little while afterwards. All around it was a good day of collecting, with everyone having success in the trilobite department.
  16. Good evening folks. I am working on curating my middle Devonian collection using the field guide book by K.A. Wilson. It is very helpful and has saved me tons of time, highly recommend. I am posting below a few of the fossils that I could not quite figure out using the book and was hoping for help. A few of these may be unsolved repeats from past posts. I realize this may be a lot so very much appreciated in advance. 1. Locality Livingston County Two pieces of the same broken fossil 2. Deep Springs 3. Deep Springs 4. Deep Springs 5. Deep Springs 6. Pseudodechenella rowi

From the album: Nautiloid’s Trilobite Collection

Although a little warped, this is still an awesome example of one of my favorite New York trilobites! This bug comes from the Middle Devonian Centerfield Limestone of Western New York, and was purchased from a good friend of mine.
