Found a type of rock today, quite unusual. Anyone can easily obtain it a number of ways but this one is special. A milestone. I joined this forum September 3rd 2020, knowing very little, just about the few things I've collected and very basic information. Came on with a "dinosaur footprint" and was absolutely clueless as to the species. Some kind forum members quickly showed me the way and entertained all my questions and rocks. Since then, I have learned so much. The amount of knowledge I've gotten from this forum in 365 days is crazy. Sometimes if I read my own posts I realize how my fossil knowledge has grown exponentially. It doesn't seem possible in one year and it came from all kinds of people of all ages from all parts of the world. This is not just an amazing place to learn, it is an amazing place. I mean how many places are better than being able to share your finds, ask for identifications you don't know, look at the amazing fossils other people have found, watch preparation as a fossil is awakened and all contained in a very nice forum without the problems other online platforms have. It's my milestone but it really is a big thanks to everyone who got me there. Thank you.

Today, March 20, 2019 — a day that will live in fame — The Fossil Forum reached the one millionth post milestone. Thanks to all the members and especially the staff that helped make this accomplishment possible. I wonder who made the millionth post; there was a flurry of last second activity.

Hey, all! I've reached 1000 posts of the Fossil Forum, and thought I should share one of my small but very cool finds. This is a Vinlandostrophia brachiopod (species unknown), from southern Indiana. It's Upper Ordovician in age, from the Cincinnati Group. I'm not sure which formation it's from, as there are three exposed at the site, and I found it as surface float near the bottom of the slope. It could be either Waynesville, Liberty, or Arnheim. While I have a handful of Vinlandostrophia in my collection, this one is pariticularly cool. Something took a large (relative to the size of the brach) bite out of it, but it survived and healed. This was not a small or simple notch; this was a large part of the shell margin removed. And yet, the critter survived, probably for several more years. There are several growth lines on the healed scar, at any rate. Enjoy! The Fossil Forum has reached an important milestone: we now have 1,000 fossils with pictures and descriptions in our collections section. We beat our fellow paleontology website MyFossil to the 1,000 mark even though they had a big head start; they started in November 2014 while we started last September. Check out the quality fossils and posts at MyFossil: http://www.myfossil.org/. I encourage everyone to help create the best online digital collection of fossils in the world. Take a look at your best fossils and see if we could use a picture of it in our digital fossil collection. I have seen a lot of fossils in FF posts that are worthwhile to add to our collection.
