Found these three rocks in an outcropping of Niobrara Chalk in Southeast SD. I suspect they are sponges or coral of some kind. Pics 2&3 are both roughly the diameter of a penny, pic 1 is probably 20% larger. ID would be greatly appreciated!

Found these five mysteries in an outcropping of Niobrara chalk in southeast SD. I think they resemble sponges or coral, though I'm well aware that they may not be. The four sand-colored ones are all roughly the diameter of a penny, though the first pic is a little larger. The red-stained one is about the diameter of a nickel. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys! I am looking for new areas to hunt for rocks and fossils around the KC area. I have been to the Blue river, Kansas river, Cedar creek, Tuttle creek, Perry Lake, Mill creek, and abandoned quarry areas. Anyone have any general locations of where I can find some stuff? I am an avid hunter for all sorts of fossils and rocks (rockhounding is my favorite past time)! I've had the most luck at the Kansas river and Perry lake. Some of my finds include cow skulls, cone coral, shells, agates, vertebrae, and a bunch of druzy quartz geodes and chalcedony. I have included pics of some of my finds - the petrified wood was sanded down and polished up to 3000 grit. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!!! Much love KC!

I found this nice vertebra on a sand bar north of Jefferson City MO. The foramina and spinal canal are clearly visible but packed with debris. My ruler is in inches. Any idea what animal this one is from? Thanks!

Hello, I am brand new at starting to look for artifacts and fossils and was hoping to get the opinions of some more experienced people. I just recently found this item,(which after some initial research, my best guess is a cow or bison tooth) and was looking to see what others thought it might be. I found it on a sandbar on the Missouri River near St. Louis, MO. I was curious if there were any features about it such as color or something else that also might indicate if it is relatively new or a pretty old tooth. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks for your help! -Brad

I've reached out to the state geological survey and a couple gem clubs without luck but need help in identifying this rock. Any help would be great. The rock is much lighter than it looks and seems to be fairly fragile.

Supposedly these came from the Missouri River valley in central South Dakota. One old timer says he was told they are petrified bones. They are very solid and high strength. Somewhat symmetrical on the longitudinal axis. Sandstone appearance on surface. What are these, any ideas?
