Recently I visited a clay pit near Mistelgau in Bavaria. It's a kinda famous quarry because of the "belemnite battle field". Huge plates with hundreds/thousands belemnites come from there. But you can also findother fossils like ammonites and also bones. I already was there a few times and I mainly found ammonites and of course belemnites. But this time I also found some bones in the area of the Belemnite battle field. They were just laying therebut it was kinda difficult to find them because they are round, Belemnites are round etc. so I more or less crawled through the quarry So here are two picture of the quarry: The typical ground there: Lots of belemnites, some ammonites and very rare other fossils like bones. I found two types of bones. Firstly Ichthyosaur paddle bones: Here is a picture of all the paddle bones I found (unprepped): Mostly they were kinda small but I was able to find a nice one with a length of 3 cm: And here is another detailed picture of a small one (1cm)

Last Friday and last Sunday I visited the quarry Mistelgau in Bavaria. Its since 2005 abandoned and a very beautiful geotop. But you can still find fossils there! It's possible to find various Jurassic fossils like ammonites, gastropodes, marine reptile bones .... I was mainly interested in finding some Ichthyosaur bones and all in all I was quite successful. Here is a picture of the quarry: Belemnits can be found everywhere ... I found 6 Ichthyosaur vertebrae and 5 paddle bones. The vertebrae: The two associated vertebrae are my favourite ones. After my visit in Ludwag i spend two hours in a quarry near Mistelgau. I already posted a hunt there a while ago: http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/69816-a-visit-in-mistelgau/#comment-732319 Sorry but i dont have in-situ pictures (it was simply too dark). However the quarry didnt change a lot I mostly found again small ammonites which come from the "Jurensismergel formation", so about 182.7 Ma till 174.1 Ma (Toarcian). Here is a picture of all finds: (Not spectacular ) Some detailed pictures of those ammonites: A nice 3.5 cm long Pleydellia sp.: Another Pleydellia from another perspective : The biggest one with a length of 5 cm: (Cotteswoldia ?) Two medium sized (3 cm) ammonites with a nice preservation. I think they are also Cotteswoldia ... And i want to show another nice find: This nice gastropod is one of the best Costatrochus i have found until now ! Its 1.5 cm long and well preserved .... Thanks for viewing ! Hope you enjoy

Last week i visit for two hours the quarry Mistelgau (clay pit) near Bayreuth. Its not allowed to dig for the "Belemnitenschlachtfelder" (belemnite battle fields), so i concentrated to find some cool ammonites .... But first some pictures in and outside the quarry: Doesnt look spectacular, but its a great place The location where i collected is not on the photo. I collected on a slope on the right of the quarry. You can find many very small ammonites (smaller than 1 cm). For example on this random photo you can see many of them ... But this looks better ... A 4 cm big Pleydellia (?) : And now i want to show some detailed finds: A nice 3.4 cm long unknown ammonite (perhaps also Pleydellia ?) Another ammonite with a length of 2.8 cm ... Looks different, i think it could be Cotteswoldia (?):

Last weekend i was two days in Bavaria and collect in 4 quarries. Two quarries, which i never visit before and two, which werent new for me ... I decide to post the finds of each quarry in a single topic that i dont have time pressure The first day i was in the quarry Mistelgau (clay pit) near Bayreuth. I am sry that i dont have pictures of the quarry but it was rainy, so i couldnt take pictures there .... I found many small ammonites (around 1-6 cm): I am not sure with ID (i appreciate any help!) .... Some detailed pictures of the nice ones: Maybe Pleydellia (?) Size: 2.6 cm Nice structure on this one ("Lobenlinien") Size: 2.5 cm A bigger one with 4 cm: (Cotteswoldia ??) And a very small one (1.2 cm) ... Maybe Ccallyphylloceras ??
