  1. Made an impulse buy, and need a critique to use as a learning experience. I believe these fossils are real (prob from Morocco), but I believe they have been placed in an unknown matrix for display. The seller said she believed they were probably excavated this way then material removed for better viewing. I’m asking for any info to expand my knowledge.
  2. Curious to know how fake this piece is. Color enhanced feels like a given, but is any part of it real? Thank you in advance.

Paleontologists make incredible dinosaur claim after 'perplexing' discovery By Holly Bishop, February 21, 2024 The open access paper is: Longrich, N.R., Pereda-Suberbiola, X., Bardet, N. and Jalil, N.E., 2024. 5. Hi, I've got this for [price redacted), claimed to be a fossile from Morroco. What are the chances of it being authentic? Really appreciate your comments. Milad

    Pterosaur bone?

Hello, I brought this small bone that was labeled at pterosaur. It’s about 2.6 inches by .27 inches by .15 inches. It was found in the Kem Kem beds and according to the seller, near similar bones and pterosaur teeth. If anyone could confirm that it’s a pterosaur bone that would be great! As always thanks a lot :).
  9. While visiting friends, they showed us a gift they'd received from a relative. I asked if they'd like to know more about their decoration piece and they said yes. I'd be grateful for whatever identification can be provided. It appears Moroccan and, maybe a possible fake? Thanks in advance for any assistance!
  10. Hi guys could you help me authenticate this megalodon tooth fossil please I bought it from a store that sells lots of crystals, meteorites etc. called [seller name redacted as per forum rules] in Sydney. The colour of the tooth is quite a blackish red colour and it was said to be found in Morroco is this normal ? IMG_0946.mov
  11. Othniel C. Marsh

    Mosasaur Teeth

These are a couple of mosasaur teeth I recently purchased and had delivered via the post. However, upon opening the package I remembered the labels to each specimen were kept separate in the package. Ordinarily, its easy to match the label to the specimen, but the similarities between the two teeth made this difficult. One is labelled as Eremiasaurus heterodontus, and the other Mosasaurus beaugei. Thanks in advance for any proposed IDs Othniel

  15. Hello, my name is Max and I will begin collecting fossils. My passion for fossils and especially dinosaurs started when I was a child. I had lots of dinosaur toys, watched a lot of movies and documentations, studied facts about them and felt like a paleontologist with my excavation kits. My fascination for this prehistoric world has never been estinguished. That's why I decided to buy a tooth of a spinosaurus, which is one of my favorites. Before buying I have read some "real or fake"-topics here in the forum but I am still not sure if the tooth I'd like to buy is real, composited from different teeth or even fake. The tooth is very large (15.5cm) thats why I thought it could possibly be composited to increase the size. The selling shop states that the tooth was repaired. Would greatly appreciate any help from you. Thank you. Max

    Help with this morrocan metacanthia

Hiya everyone just looking for help with this trilobite to make sure of the species haven’t seen one with this preservation before, I’m more used to the black exoskeleton, any help would be great cheers
  21. Okay so just in the short amount of time since I’ve signed up I’ve already learned a lot. Especially how many fabrications come out of Morocco. I had no idea until I did a little bit of digging. With that being said, what’s your opinions on this spinosaur claw? Real? Fake? I think it’s definitely made up from real bone as there is sheen coming off of it. But I can’t tell if it’s been carved or not. My eye has yet to be trained. Even if it’s real I’m still embarrassed that i
  22. I have seen online this Acadoparadoxides levisetti (Middle Cambrian), from the Wawrmast Formation, Alnif (Morocco). 14cm I was wondering how much restoration there is, or if it's all a cast. @Kane @piranha @aeon.rocks

Need Help To ID Dinosaur Vertebra

Hi everyone! I’m an amateur fossil collector who wants to collect and learn more about fossils and hope to learn more through this forum. Growing up I’ve always been fascinated by dinosaurs and sharks in particular. Today I went to a fossil show and found a vertebra that I found particularly fascinating. I bought it not knowing exactly what it was so I can chase the thrill of learning what it is and why. The man I had purchased it from had said it was from a spinosaurus. However, I’m skeptical because he was also marketing a tooth as an allosaurus tooth. He was honest man and had told me that he wasn’t exactly sure what kind of tooth it was. Later, I found out the tooth in fact belonged to a carcharodontosaurus based on the matrix. Luckily I didn’t spend money on what was thought to be an allosaurus tooth. Nor did I spend too much on the vertebra. Now I don’t have a lot of information to go off of. I’m not quite sure where exactly the vertebra came from nor do I know how the gentleman came to own it. All I do have are the photos that I took of it. Judging from the looks of it, it does seem to have come from Morocco based on the color and other specimens I have seen. I also tried to study the skeleton of a spinosaur to see if I could ID it using reference photos. It’s difficult to tell but if it did come from a spinosaur, I’m thinking it’s part of the neck. Anyways, if I could get some help that would be great! Bonus points if you could tell me which part of the animal it came from.

    Spinosaurid vertebrae?

Good evening, these vertebrae are announced as spinosaurid, but it's posible to know just with the centrum preserved? At Kem Kem beds there are a lot of other reptiles so, it's posible to know with incomplete material like these?
  25. Hi guys, I'm interested in this Metacanthina issoumourensis from Morocco. According to the seller it has no restoration. It seems that the rest looks good, but I do not know if there may be something in the cephalon. as you see ?
