Good day hunting at NSR creeks. For the first half of the day I helped a friend retrieve a Civil War grave marker from a creek. We researched it and got it back to the family who will return it's proper resting place. We decided to hunt a few hours and had some good luck. My friend Mick found two of the largest Tylosaur verts I have ever seen. I found a nice size broken Tylosaur vert, two smaller Mosasaur verts, bone fragment and a nice piece of Rudists. The huge verts in the last pic were found by my friend Mick but thought I would share the impressive pic.

Hello all. My buddy and I went to the NSR and Post Oak Creek this weekend. I was hoping someone could help me identify a couple of finds. The first is one was found on the bed of the NSR. It appears to be bone, but it is very heavy (perhaps from soaking up all the grey clay since it was embedded in the bed). The second was found at Post Oak Creek and appears to be bone, kind of like a finger type bone (digit). We also found some nice teeth and nice baculite. This is my first post about my finds, so any help would be much appreciated. I was also wondering if anyone could provide some advice on where to look for fossils at the NSR. This was my second trip in a month (or ever for that matter) and I am having a really hard time finding anything. The baculite is about the most identifiable thing I have found. Should you look on the bed, the cliff side (it's all grey!), mouth of creeks, the creeks themselves...? Thanks in advance. Glad to be a member.

Made my first fossil foray of the year. The North Sulphur River turned up a few nice pieces for me. Baculites sections Ammonite pieces. The one on the left retains a lot of the original contours. I haven't run across one this nice before in the Sulphur. (Continued ... )

Helping a friend to ask. Here's a strange-looking thing. He thinks it could be a mosasaur brain case. Then again, it could be a suggestively shaped rock too. It comes from Morocco. What do you think?

Hello again, I've posted this fossil before on here a couple weeks back, but I did some more uncovering of the fossil and made a few additions from rock fragments I found surrounding the fossil, so it is more complete now. It is from the fox hills formation in South Dakota, with the depositional environment being lagoonal. Professional papers collecting samples from this formation list shark teeth, mosasaur teeth, bivalves, as well as dinosaur bone fragments being found here. I think we can safely rule out bivalves though haha. The brown end of the fossil looks to be a jointed end of the bone. The black "fracture" above my thumb in the first pic looks like a bone suture, something that occurs only in skulls of vertebrates. I'm no expert on sutures but this "crack" looks like it didn't occur after death of the animal. I haven't had this theory confirmed though. Thanks again!

This is what I found on my last 2 trips to ramanessin brook in New Jersey. On each trip I came away with a good amount of teeth and other fossils. I found some nice size goblins, a couple big squaicorax, a croc scute and quite a few enchodus teeth and jaw pieces. My most interesting find out of the two trips is what I believe is half of a huge mosasaur root. It has a tiny bit of enamel where the crown would've been.

A bit late, but here are the finfs from my Christmas Day trip to the North Sulphur River. To start off, a couple of small cephalopod bits out of the Ozan "red zone." Next, a chunk of ammonite. The coloration on this one isn't what I'm used to from Sulphur cephalopods, and some chips in the surface revealed that under the outer coating, a lot of crystalline minerals were present. Hey everyone. I took a trip to ramanessin brook and found this. When I first picked it up I thought it was just an unidentifiable piece of bone. But then I noticed the indentation when I looked at the other side. I believe it is a mosasaur root that is split in half. It also has a tiny piece of black enamel where I believe the crown of the mosasaur tooth would've been. I'd love to know what you all think about this.
