Hello to everybody! I'm kinda new here, but before I start I must say I really love this forum! It has really great vibes and you instantly can tell that this is a good and friendly community! So, I am ziggycardon, I live in Belgium, close to the border of the Netherlands and when we start speaking geologically, I live on the same cretaceous sediments as where the first major Mosasaurus discoveries where done! Unfortunatly I have never been on a fossil hunt myself and everything currently in my collection was bought or given to me. But I hope to change that soon, as I am dyi

Hello and thank you for checking this out. I picked up this 2.7" tooth that supposedly comes from Oued Zem, Morocco. I know next to nothing about Mosasaurus teeth, but I wanted to see if a species could be assigned to it. Serrations?: Thank you!

I had the opportunity and good fortune to participate in the excavation and preparation of a mosasaur this past year. The specimen was discovered by a new friend, Allison, in a small unnamed stream adjacent to family property in east-central Mississippi (? Prairie Bluff Fm, Upper Cretaceous, Late Maastrichtian).Allison found the first bones in early May and contacted me for help in identifying the bones through a mutual friend. I'm far from an expert, but was able to ID the bones (a radius and vertebra) as mosasaur. She was really excited, since the bones were her first vertebrate fossils othe

Hey guys, I just bought a relatively large Mosasaur tooth and I found what I believe to be another Mosasaur tooth mark near the base of the tooth, but I wasn't sure. Tell me what you think! Second picture I circled what I believe is the tooth damage.

Hi everyone! I purchased this "Mosasaurus Skull" about a year ago. I'm certain that it's fake, but I was curious as to how bad of a fake it was (to humor me) and what kind of teeth these are. Thanks!

@pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon and I wrote a paper on Mosasaurus hoffmannii fossils from the Moroccan Phosphates. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/357836567_Occurrence_of_Mosasaurus_hoffmannii_Mantell_1829_Squamata_Mosasauridae_in_the_Maastrichtian_Phosphates_of_Morocco https://www.aaps-journal.org/pdf/JPS.C.22.0001.pdf Abstract: Marginal tooth crowns from the hypercarnivorous marine reptile Mosasaurus hoffmannii Mantell, 1829 are reported for the first time from the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) phosphates of Morocco. I was told this is a Curry (or currii) mosasaurus, but now I am having problems identifying it. What are your thoughts? I think it's a beautiful specimen, but I just wish I knew more about it. Any help?

Prepasaurus beaugei: my first ever vertebrate prep!
IsaacTheFossilMan posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
A couple of weeks ago, I acquired a gorgeous fish and mosasaur association, from a seller on the web. It hails from the Cretaceous of Khouribga, Morocco, unprepped, just split out of the rock! Here's the fossil in question! Ignore the mess in the background... Can you believe this thing is 70.6 - 66 million years old!? Look at the sheer awesome preservation on that fish spine; absolutely stunning! So, story time. The tooth is from the species "Mosasaurus beaugei", a pretty large mosasaurine. Here's a nice image (or, 2 images...) of the size o- 18 replies

Hey guys! While on vacation my brother nephew and I wondered into a fossil shop and I helped them pick out a nice tooth and jaw from a mosasaur which I identified as Mosasaurus beaugei. My question is, is it a composite or a partial jaw with tooth? I'm leaning towards composite, but I wanted a second opinion. Don't worry about my nephew, he's aware it might be a composite and is THRILLED with it either way and it wasn't expensive. Quarter is for scale. Thanks!

Prognathodon anceps vs. Prognathodon giganteus: What is the difference?
Praefectus posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
I have been reading up on Moroccan mosasaurs and one point of confusion that I have run into is differentiating teeth from Prognathodon anceps and Prognathodon giganteus. There seems to be a great deal of overlap in their descriptions and occasional contradictions in the scientific literature. The first issue I’ve noticed is that there seems to be a great deal of confusion over what to even call the two species. Leiodon anceps (Owen, 1841-1845) was based on two tooth fragments and a section of jawbone. The genus was renamed Liodon by Agassiz (1846) because the- 10 replies

The great (crocodile) tooth identification game
pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon posted a topic in Fossil ID
Some time ago I came across this seller selling a lot of pliosaur teeth without provenance, most of which can be attributed to misidentified teeth of Zarafasaura oceanis, the elasmosaurid of the Moroccan phosphates. However, amongst these same teeth, I also came across the below few of teeth that I'm having difficulty identifying. Tooth 5 is obviously a mosasaurid tooth from the Ouled Abdoun basin and probably belongs to Eremiasaurus heterodontus; tooth 1 seems to originate in the Kem Kem; and I suspect there are at least a few crocodile teeth amongst the rest (at least tooth 4). But I've grow- 5 replies

Ahoi. Another marine tetrapod. To be perfectly clear, This is a commercially bought Model which I changed to my ideas.Like my marine sloth and most of my dino- and other saurian ,models, but not my whales. I ordered the model from geoworld because some of the line had been quite nice. When I first saw it I didn´t think I could make something for my collection out of it. Tried it anyway. Because of the size in my chosen scale of 1/20 I decided to model it on Platecarpus, although I don´t claim to be accurate to even genus level. It´s just the medium s

Mosasaurus tooth and How about this trilobite?
JGandy posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi again! I figured since you were all so helpful with the fake trilobite that'd I would show you the mosa tooth I bought from the same seller. How does this look? It hasnt arrived yet so this picture came from the seller. Then as a bonus, this is the trilobite I'm thinking of getting to replace the fake I'm sending back. This one has to be real right?- 9 replies

Found this thick bone piece in a new jersey cretaceous creek and wonder if its possible to maybe id since one side has a distinct rough texture while the other is flatter and striated, I would guess either large turtle, mosasaur, or dinosaur. My friend joked its a theropod maxilary skull fragment, but we all know around here that material seems close to impossible to come across haha. Interested to hear any other thoughts.

Hi everyone! With my 6 years old son we have bought this precious tooth in a prestigious shop at Barcelona. They have tell us that is a Mosasaurus tooth, but I think not. It looks more a Spinosaurus tooth, maybe (sorry if I'm talking absurdity, I'm totally newbie...). The teller at shop was not the usual one, and it was not possible to ask him more information. Please, may you help me to identify the correct "former owner" for this tooth? My son and I will be very grateful for that. I'm posting some photos for the piece. The first one is from the other pieces at shop, that
