    Tooth of some kind?

Just a little fragment, but I’m curious. Found Myrtle Beach, 2022. Seems to have an enamel exterior. Thanks!
  2. Myrtle Beach, 2022 Looks interesting but no idea what it could possibly be. Thanks!
  3. Myrtle Beach, 2022 no idea what this is. When I flip it over the concave on the other side reminds me of some neurocranium pieces I have seen. But the top isn’t familiar to me at all. I might even think tooth but doesn’t quite have the sheen of enamel. Thank you!
  4. Myrtle beach, 2022 2 inches long. I don’t usually try to identify bone that I pick up since they are just fragments. But this piece has a very clear channel running through it. It’s hard to photograph that channel well but it’s in the first photo. The channel runs the entire length of the piece then fades out toward the end. Including pictures of both sides and from the thick end on. Is this piece recognizable to anyone? Thank you!

    Weird oval tooth?

Myrtle Beach, 2022 this piece has a very shiny top like enamel. Reminds me of the very type of enamel I find on drum fish teeth. The underside seems to have a defined opening. I am including a photo of the side showing how the enamel meets the dull gray side. this piece is 1 inch long. thanks! Paula
  6. Maybe this is turtle shell, but the marking on it made me wonder if it’s some thing else. ideas? found Myrtle Beach, 2022 thanks! Paula
  7. This seems too "bubbly" to be turtle shell. Any ideas? Found Myrtle Beach, January, 2022. Thin, bubbly texture on both sides. Marrow type stipling inbetween.

    Some kind of scute?

Myrtle Beach, January, 2022 I'm thinking this might be some kind of scute. I haven't much experience in picking these up. Saw a picture of a gar scute that reminded me of this. Any ideas? Thanks!
  9. Found on Myrtle Beach, January, 2022 This is not a sting ray barb. I've picked up hundreds of those. This is curved, not straight, and has a tiny bit of serration on one edge only, though it's very difficult to see in the picture. Both sides have texture (sting ray barbs are flat on one side). I'm including an image I found of an extinct porpoise (Eurhinodelphis) and it looks a lot like the tip of the snout - to me, anyway. Thoughts?
  10. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, January, 2022 This kind of reminds me of the searobin skull plates I've collected, so maybe it's a skull plate of another fish? Definitely not searobin. Thanks for your help! Paula
  11. Found on Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, January 2022 Doesn't look like any turtle shell I've found before. Pretty lacy pattern on the front. The back side of it is very symmetrical, as if whatever this thing was, this is the whole part of it (or at least it is worn down evenly to show it is the center of whatever the whole part of it was.) Very thin though it comes to a peak at the top, middle. Thanks for your help! Paula

Myrtle Beach find - wood? tusk?

Found on Myrtle Beach Jan 18, 2022. Feels and looks like fossilized wood. No "marrow" type stipling so not bone. Looking from the round cut-off end, darker black on the outside, lighter color on the inside. That coloring threw me. Thought it was bone but now that strange color just wanted me to double check this wasn't some kind of animal tusk or horn. Thanks! Paula
  13. Found on Myrtle Beach, Jan 18, 2022. Never saw this one before. Bottom is concave with a small protruding tip at the top (third picture) Top is rounded, coming to a peak in the middle. The top two pictures make this look almost like a steinkern but it isn't, as you can see from third image. Thank you!
  14. Found washed up on Myrtle Beach, Jan 18, 2022. The tip of this looks to have enamel on it. Back is broken off, so might have been more rounded in the back; hard to tell. Thank you! Paula

    Horse hoof?

Here are pictures of a bone fossil found by my wife at Myrtle Beach. It reminds me of horse fossils I have seen, but not exactly. Can anyone please help id?
  17. I am visiting myrtle beach soon, cherry grove area, and was wondering if there were any really good strategies for finding shark teeth. I have been to holden beach, a little ways north, and found 75 shark teeth in a week by mostly looking in shell beds, however, I found my two largest teeth, two great whites, in a tide pool. Is there a really good location for tooth hunting at cherry grove? also, is there any one spot at the beach where there are the most shark teeth.

    Shark Teeth ID

Hi all, Just finished up a vacation in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Each of these three teeth were found in the ocean swash upon crushed up shells. Can anyone identify any of the three? The last one (I did post in a separate thread, but figured I include it again) is just the tip (which looks pretty large to me as it’s almost as big as a dime - attached multiple photos). Really can’t determine what this might be? Looks very old and worn.

    What type of shark?

Can anyone ID this fossilized partial shark tooth for me? It was found in Myrtle Beach, SC. I’m usually pretty good at identifying them; however, this is just the tip as the rest of the tooth and the root is gone. The serrated edges (if any) look really worn out too - so this thing is old! Looks like it would’ve been a decent size too. I took a photo from above too as the tooth also looks thick.

Help needed on possible skull fragment

My wife found this chunk of bone at Myrtle Beach, SC yesterday evening. I think it is a skull fragment. Can anyone confirm or deny and maybe identify a species? Thanks The photos are from both sides of the bone. #1,4,&5 are what I'm calling interior.

    Help with suspected carpal bone

Would greatly appreciate if anyone has thoughts on this bone found on the beach in Myrtle Beach. It is triangular, laterally compressed, and has a concave articulating surface on the long edge. I’m thinking some type of carpal bone? Turtle or dolphin, maybe. Thanks in advance!

    Possible gomphothere tooth fragment

I found this partial tooth at Myrtle Beach today. I think worn gomphothere, but having never handled one I'm not sure.

    Crab Claw?

I found this in Little River, South Carolina. I'm trying to decide if it's just a very odd corner of a shell or if it's a crab claw or something else entirely. I've found similar looking crab claws in the past but this just looks different. Doesn't look like it has layering like a shell usually has. It's hollow inside and it's about an inch long. Phone camera isnt that great. Took the best pics I could get.

    Giant ground sloth tooth fragment

Found this piece on North Myrtle Beach. I am almost certain it is a giant ground sloth tooth fragment from what I seen. The front and black has the jet black enamel of a tooth and is layered. I've never found a sloth tooth before so I would like to be sure that is what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  25. Found this on Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Made me think possibly of a whale ear? But it really doesn’t look like the same material as other fossils I find here so maybe just a rock. But had to ask because it has some unique features....
