    Another Unidentified Nautiloid

    Unidentified nautiloid section Lower Devonian Kalkberg Formation Helderberg Group Schoharie, NY Dug this out of a quarry wall on an NYPS outing. Realized when I got home that the end piece might still be lying on the ground near where I found this.

This image has been copyrighted. ------------------------------------------------------------------- From the Ordovician of Hubei Province, this straight-shelled nautiloid is a cousin of the Orthoceras and Orthocones. Some measuring well over 2 meters, this specimen measures 6", most likely being a juvenile.

This image has been copyrighted. ------------------------------------------------------------------- This polished nautiloid is from the Ordovician of Hubei Province. Known as the "ram's horn" in China, this species of nautiloid displays a strange structure, similar to that of a sprouting fern.
