Hello everybody! Name’s Veronica, newish fossil hunter here. I’ve been to Big Brook a few times now and today found something pretty cool, I think. It was just laying on top of the river bed right as I walked in. I’d say the actual “bone” part is a bit over an inch. It has a V shape with the posterior (is that the right term?) end being concave. The convex area has a hole in the middle. Some parts are broken off where I believe you can see the porous bone structure. Hope I’m using all the right terms here, lol. Thanks in advance!

Recently I took a trip up to central New Jersey in the US with my sister for our 2nd trip fossil hunting; at a place called “big brook preserve”. As I was sifting through looking at some fossils that I could identify such as shark teeth and fossilized poop with my very basic studying from the Internet and stuff I’ve seen on tv. She calls me over at something she had found while sifting through the dirt in the brook. Thinking that I’d be able to identify it for her I was stumped. it looks like it has characteristics of a fossil from what I think but with my limited knowledge and understanding I keep going back to the idea of “nah it can’t be” And thinking it’s just a cool rock. Either way the water seemed to do a number on this this find eroding it over the years. Also the finds in this brook are usually Cretaceous period specimens and the occasional dinosaur fossil is rare, and reptile fossils are a tiny bit rare too here I think. I have a couple pictures that I took that night when we returned home. I’ll take better lit pictures if these aren’t adequate enough, but the main question I have that’s been bothering me is; is it a rock or a fossil from something once living? Side note the front is slightly smoothed/curved and the back is mostly flat. Please and thank you to anyone willing to help. I’ve also taken the time since then to email 2 local universities for assistance too if that’s even possible.

Dear Fellow Forum goers, I intend this to be just a quick trip report. My friend @The Jersey Devil and I decided to do some collecting on what turned out to be a very pleasant day. Both of us were quite tired for some reason and didn't really hunt as intensely as we could have. We both did okay. I found some decent things, but nothing to write home about. Maybe next time. There were many leaves and trees down due to the recent winds. Overall, the experiences we had today 08/06/2020 were pretty good. 15th visit to big brook today. Did pretty well finding shark teeth and have a small very which I will post. Found another rib and leg bone which I presume to be deer. But this was my best find of the day. Looks like a pelvis but couldn’t find a match. Assume modern from the nasty cuts. 3 inches by 2.5 inches. Thank you

Found in Devonian area in NW New Jersey. Is this some type of coral? To me it looks like a grouping of individual horn corals.

Few months back my girlfriend and I stumbled upon a nice deposit of Belemnites in a new area we were exploring, some examples better then others. We decided to make a little art piece to display in the house of the epic afternoon we had! Here is our Belemnite sun. Let us know what you think!

Went to Big Brook in New Jersey and found these three items. (In VA I have found a lot of whale bone, however this bone is bigger and of different color.) Also, what are the other two curiosities below it? The smaller one looks like a toe. Thank you for looking and for any feed back.

Dragged the family back to Big Brook in Monmouth County, NJ so I could do some more fossil hunting. We've had some pretty big storms over the past couple days, and I wanted to see if anything cool surfaced. Here are most of our finds. (The really dark thing on the bottom right is a vertebrae.)

My 8 year old daughter found this itty bitty jawbone while sifting at Big Brook in Monmouth County, NJ. It measures a little over a centimeter and includes the tiniest of teeth! Can anyone help me identify it? My first guess based on research is the marsupial pediomys, but I don't have much experience. Thank you for any insight!

I am planning my second trip to New Jersey in a couple of weeks. I want to return to Big Brook and/or hit up Ramanessin. Last time I went I had a spectacular time at Big Brook, and one of my fossils is still pending identification with the NJ museum Last time I parked at the Boundary Road lot and walked south to the riverbed, figuring less people probably went that way. Are there better sections to explore or better/different access points? Also pondering Ramanessin just for variety/the heck of it. Shown is the rough map of where I wandered last time.

Good morning a Big Brook find measuring 1 inch long. Bigger and thicker than the enchodus teeth I’ve found. Two edges but no serrations. Thank you four your help

My family and I just enjoyed a whirlwind, 3 day mini vacation. Tuesday we got up around 5am and left the house by 6 and headed to New Jersey. We arrived at Big Brook by 10:30. The day started off very slow. We weren't finding much and needed to move around a bit. Finally the last gravel bar that we hit started paying off pretty good. My family wasnt into it as much as me so the boys only found a few items ,but better then nothing. I scored a nice amount, of mainly sharkteeth. (Which is fine by me). Here is my haul.

This piece was found this past weekend near Big Brook in New Jersey(Cretaceous Period). Need help identifying. Was told possible sea turtle or mosasaur piece?? Help and opinions open. Hi all, awhile ago I saw shark river had a sewer leaking into the stream and I was wondering if anyone has been there lately or could tell me if it’s open, there hasn’t been anything in the news about it since September and I’ve wanted to go there for a long time. TIA.

I was digging in the sand and found this in Avalon, New Jersey. It looks like half of a shark vertebrae. But I’m not really sure! If anyone can provide any identification and further info I would really appreciate it!
