Hi everyone! I found this fang-looking thing last year at Big Brook in Monmouth County, NJ. I recovered it from the stream bed. It has multiple rows of serrations running from bottom to top, and some indentations, too. I've attached pictures of it next to a ruler to show its size and multiple pictures of it from different angles. This picture of it pinched between my fingers shows the bottom on the "fang." Thank you in advance for any help you can give!

Hi! It's me again! This is another find from Big Brook in Monmouth County, NJ. It was recovered from the stream bed. I'm not sure it it's even a fossil, but it stuck out to me, especially because of the indentation. Thank you for your help!

Went on my first ever fossil hunt a few weeks ago in Big Brook, New Jersey. It was a wonderful time and a sunny day. I am new to fossil hunting, and hope to be back soon! In a few hours of searching, I found some belemnites as well as these two shark teeth, and would appreciate some help in identification. #1 is quite small (about 1cm in height), and #2 is a partial tooth: Shark tooth #1: From what I can find from the excellent NJ fossil websites, my best guess is either a sand tiger shark (Carcharias samhammeri) vs a small goblin shark (Scapanorhynchus texanus). I am not sure how to tell them apart? Shark tooth #2: I really like the color of this one. My best guess is a lateral goblin shark tooth? Big Brook NJ was a great spot for a novice fossil hunter to have a fun day. I did not venture far, and was unsure whether it was better to walk upstream toward the bridge or further downstream. Any tips would be appreciated!

I was looking into going to Shark River NJ and I was wondering at which part of Shark River cuts through formation as it is pretty long. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is it worth visiting? How does one make arrangements for a visit there. I have visited the website but when I try to click on links it doesn't work for me. Hello! I'm leaning towards Mosasaur on this but that's mostly based on the fact that Mosasaur vertabra are a lot more common here than dinosaur. I found it in a Monmouth County, NJ Cretaceous deposit. The reason I'm posting this here is because the structure looked a little different than my other Mosasaur verts and upon further review, I noticed it had those bumpy patterns in the concave end that I don't see on my other Mosasaur verts. It's also pretty heavy but appears to be highly mineralized so that might or might not be a factor. As always, all help is greatly appreciated! -Frank

Went fossiling in Ramanessin Brook (Howell, NJ) on 7/9/19. Various finds. Some have already been identified (such as crow shark, mosasaur tooth fragment, sawfish, turtle plastern, ammonite, etc.), but was wondering if anyone saw some additional finds that could be identified. Thank you!

Hello everyone, My girlfriend and I ventured over to Big Brook in New Jersey again this morning. After hours of digging I came up with this odd piece. I am under the belief that it may be a piece of an ammonite, but I am not 100 percent sure, as I know they are kind of hard to come by at Big Brook. If anyone could identify it, or just tell me its a weird rock it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -Snag

This is something pretty interesting and one I have never seen before while fossil hunting in Ramenessin Brook. I am perplexed as to if its a vertebrae but i am having doubts that it is. Wondering if anybody as an idea as to what this could be!!!

NJ Cretaceous streams, found a few of these over my time, just not sure what they are. Any advice? Sorry for crappy pics, if its an issue and a piece that's nto easily determinable I will take more exact close ups. Thanks all!

Any chance this is some sort of dino bone? Found in NJ Cretaceous stream. The strange color, shine and texture just struck my eye outside of the usual tricky rocks.

This was found on the Jersey Shore - a beach on the western Atlantic. I unfortunately don't have a scale, but it measures 3 inches x 4 inches (7.6 cm x 10.2 cm). Any idea what it is?

New genus and species of Cretaceous crab (New Jersey)

Hello! I wanted to share some information and the published study of a crab carapace I recently donated to the New Jersey State Museum (NJSM). I found this last year in Monmouth County, New Jersey and thanks to suggestions from fellow forum members, as well as the NJSM, I sent this crab to decapod expert Dr. Rodney Feldmann to study. After review, it was determined that this crab represents a new genus and species and was recently published in the Mizunami Fossil Museum Bulletin. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Dr. Feldmann, who was kind enough to name it after me (Costadromia hajzeri). I also want to thank my good friends at the New Jersey State Museum, and everyone on the forum who helped ID this specimen. Hello! I just wanted to check on these two pieces before they go into the black hole known as my 'unidentifiable bone' bin. Both are from Monmouth County New Jersey (Cretaceous). I found fossil number 1 two days ago and unfortunately, it didn't make the trip back home in one piece. When I looked at it though, the broken sections looked more like my broken Mosasaur and Enchodus teeth than bone (scan below), and it also reminded me of a fossil my brother found years ago that we weren't able to identify. I looked online and the texture of the recent 'thing' looked similar to some dinosaur teeth (Titanosaur and sauropod especially) so I just wanted to see what everyone thought. Thanks again! -Frank
