Was just in the Ramanessin Brook today looking for shark teeth and stumbled upon this interesting fossil. I have never seen anything like this. Could it be a possible vertebrae from a marine mammal or late Cretaceous marine species?

Hello, I have found a strange fossil-like head of a dinosaur (I hope!) but I am not going to hope, because this rock was found in the backyard of my house. I am not sure what it is, but if it is not a fossil, can someone kindly tell me what it is (including the name of the rock and how it got there) and explain why this is just a coincidence. I recently took a break from my usual Cretaceous streams and met up with another forum member in Montague NJ for some Devonian fossils. I had a really good time and came back with some nice fossils. First of all, the scenery is amazing - Montague is up in the mountains of Northern New Jersey and this spot was basically on a mountain. I saw deer and wild turkeys and also heard that there were bears in the area too. I found the usual trilobite parts but my favorite find of the day were the nautiloids (Weller has them as Orthoceras but I believe that species was reclassified - I could be wrong), which both came out of the same rock. I had no idea coming in that you could find these guys here! Overall, it was a great day at a nice nice spot!

Possible Coprolite from Upper Cretaceous, Monmouth County, N.J.

Found what looks like a coprolite attached to a piece of matrix. It was found in Willow Brook this AM. Willow Brook contains exposures of Upper Cretaceous formations. It is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Can anyone confirm whether this is a coprolite or not and if so what might have made it. I've included views of both sides. Hello! I found this on the beach in Bay Head, NJ. Is this some kind of tooth? Any ideas what kind? I have additional photos if that would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

This is my first time posting. My husband is a huge fossil enthusiast. Our two sons and I would like to surprise him by taking him on a fossil hunting excursion for Father's Day. We live in NYC, and are hoping to find someplace that's fun, that's within 2-3 hours of the city, and that also has the opportunity to hike or swim or do one other activity of some kind. Any suggestions? Thank you for any help or ideas you can share - we really appreciate it.

Hello everyone! I hoping to get some clarification to help differentiate Cretaceous crocodile teeth from Mosasaur teeth. These two were found in the New Jersey Cretaceous. The first one is a shade under 1/2 an inch. It is conical and doesn't appear to have any cutting edges (but they could be worn off). I was leaning towards Mosasaur tooth on the second one because of the size of 8/10ths' of an inch, but it is slightly more slender than my other Mosasaur teeth, very conical and the root looked a bit different. It appears to have one very weak cutting edge but I'm not positive. It was pointed out to me that crocodile teeth roots tend to have concentric rings so I was wondering what everyone thought regarding these guys. Thanks! @Plax @josephstrizhak

Hey everyone, I would like your opinion on this interesting vertebra (from the NJ Late Cretaceous). I identified it a long time ago as a first cervical vertebra from either a ray or an angel shark. An expert looked at some pictures and thinks it is a batoid first cervical vertebra. Sorry about the picture quality, these are old photos. Thanks for any help!

Hello all! I wanted to ask the community for a little tutorial on Cretaceous bone with scavenge/predatory marks. These bones are all from Monmouth County New Jersey. I learned recently that a lot of scratch marks on bones are probably from crabs and I believe there were some carnivorous snails so I wanted see if there was anyway to tell if any of these pieces are definitely bite marks or not. Note- the third picture is the the back sides of the bones. As always, all help is greatly appreciated!

Greetings! I found this today in a Cretaceous stream in Monmouth County, NJ. My best guess would be some type of enchinoid, but I'm really not sure so I'm wondering if anyone knew what it was. I believe it to be from the Wenonah Formation. As always, any help is greatly appreciated! -Frank

I found this in my early collecting days (late 90s, early 00s) in one of the typical Monmouth County Cretaceous stream. The texture doesn't at all say bone to me, but that notch has me wondering.
